Күн бұрын

Usually when I get a new answering machine I hook it up to my Wide Array of Answering Machines and let the people calling in listen to the messages while deleting them all. But Devon donated this one to the cause and suggested that I listen to the messages so I'm making you all listen with me so I don't get too bored doing this by myself. There are no prank calls in this video, Get over it you bunch of crybabies.
To call into PLA's answering machine hacking line, call 505-608-6123 or 845-470-0336. Once you're in the answering machine menu, this machine will be #4.

@@paulmaul2186 That seems impossible. I think it was the late 80s when our area code changed or was added, but not the numbers. I remember it taking me a while to get used to it. Funny how I remember our old number where I grew up. We had a recorder that took really tiny tapes. I also remember some hobo somehow hacking into it because my mother didn't know anything about technology. I ended up becoming the only person in my town to even own a computer, and they were 2 grans back then. It was during the age of the Tandy Sensation system. I had some different one called SKV. They must not have been in business long because I never could find any information on them since. Wish I still had it. It had Win 3.1. :) I was king shit of my town with the only computer and finally had enough money to get dialup :)

@shannonharvey8300
@shannonharvey8300 3 жыл бұрын
0:26 That message is probably the message that plays when someone calls the answering machine. Trowbridge and Associates is a business development corporation. 1:50 Marie the owner probably tried to call the number and the lady left a message saying which homes were sold. 2:39 Tori the security guard for a business corporation cancelled the red alert. Marie is probably Tori's mother. 3:35 Mr Hanson was probably talking to Marie about some sort of information. 3:49 I'm assuming Carol was trying to get in touch with Murray which is Marie's husband. Murray could be a manager for Trowbridge and Associates. Carol could've been trying to start a business. 9:30 Tobi said Marie's long lost nephew. Marie and Murray are old like 60's age in the 80s then. They're probably deceased. Tobi and them were planning on a river trip. 10:19 the business corporation could've needed some remodeling in a room or something. Plywood is used for building or remodeling. A guy from another wood related company left a message. Astoria is a seaside town In Oregon. About 1 hour and 48 minutes from Portland Oregon. 10:44 I believe someone in that family got in a car wreck or got injured. Said her condition is bad. From Marie's family. The guy was maybe in a hospital leaving a message for Marie and Murray. 11:05 Joan is Marie's cousin friend or something. 11:26 Tori called Marie, her mother. If Tori said "What are you up to this weekend?" Tori is in her early 20s. Bryant went out to see grandfather this morning. Bryant is Tori's brother. I'm assuming. Idk. 14:35 Marie called Mr Cain about something. 15:02 The 80's technology wasn't all good. The person was trying to send a voicemail when there was a bad thunderstorm. Portland Oregon has bad weather. 16:36 I'm assuming it was a man calling Murray about life. I think the man said: Hey Murray, "Your things don't even report anything about you." "About that dial tone now, and it rang about four or five times there." If the man hanged up the phone slowly, he is an old man. Old people are physically slow. 17:08 Tori called her mom Marie. Tori said she's at the park down by the water/lake. Shes there from 1:30 to 5:30. Tori must of had friends or co-working friends hanging out. If she was at a barn, it was her friends. 17:41 the family goes on vacation a lot and the lady leaving a message saying hope you enjoyed your trip. 17:59 Marie, it's patty powell and Dottie. Pattie is Marie's sister. Pattie said daddy is going to the office and she's going shopping. Dottie is sisters husband. I looked up the at&t answering machine, I found a year that it came out. The answering machine you used came out in 1986. The first date on it was 1987 from the first message. An old couple used this answering machine. They probably died and their house was sold. The answering machine was gaven to goodwill and their other stuff I'm assuming. I guessed all the people who they were on the answering machine. 6/7/21 11:36 PM.

The weird tones between the outgoing and incoming messages are probably put on the tape by the machine to mark the end of the outgoing and beginning of the incoming messages. Tory said she was at the farm and “watering stock” as in getting the water tanks full for the animals on the farm to drink from.
@plateshutoverlock
@plateshutoverlock Жыл бұрын
Sounds like simple data bits slowed down. A sequence of 1s and 0s. The machine listens to these bits as it's fast forwarding to the "record" part of the tape. This is also done so the sounds in a human voice isn't accidently interpreted as the control signal.

16:20 the reason the tape is distorted on side 2 is likely because someone had the tape ribbon behind the metal capstan shaft (just visible in the right hand circle at the front of the tape) instead of in front of it. So the tape will be driven at high and irregular speed by the take up spool. Happens if the tape's a bit slack when you put it in the deck.

I think part of the reason messages start in progress is because people didn't wait for the tape to wind to a blank spot and beep before they started talking. My friend has a microcassette answering machine that only contains one tape and it takes a while for it to get to a clean part of the tape. I prefer machines that have two tapes (I also prefer full size tapes as I find external machines are easier to find in the event I need to play them elsewhere).

The odd sounds you are hearing from some portions of the tape are because the capstan lost its grip on the tape and the speed under the head changed. I've dealt with this before. Spin the raw feed into Sound Forge 9.0 and play with the speed....since SF 9.0 is pretty old, playing with the speed will also play with the pitch, which you actually want for this.

They started with corporate enterprises (only people that could afford the extremely large price tag) on reel to reel, then they made domestic reel to reels (severely cheapened so Joe Homeowner could afford one) then they moved to standard cassette, then microcassette, then digital, and now it's cell phone voicemails.
