Are you like me and you never heard of phonemic awareness in your teacher prep program?
Even though teachers have gained much ground since those days, we’re often not being taught the latest evidence. 🤨
This actually matters more now than ever because more efficient and effective ideas align with the science. Kids don’t have time to waste!
Given this research to practice gap, we are honored to be hosting esteemed reading researcher Dr. Susan Brady in an upcoming complimentary talk --
🔷Phoneme Awareness: How Knowledge About this Component of the Science of Reading Has Evolved🔷
Dr. Brady has been researching PA since its early days, and she may surprise you with her synthesis of the recent research.

Yes! Our children could be enjoying reading so much earlier if this information was widely known!

Thank you! Thank you! This information is much needed. Unfortunately, I'm sure you're going to experience push back from some who don't want to embrace change or the science. Thank you for sharing.

Agreed! It's such an easy way to save instructional time and get kids reading. There has been A LOT of interest in it so I'm optimistic! Thanks Nikki!

How to be more effective and make it easier to be successful as a teacher. 1, initial phoneme or sound. 10 CVC words. If 80% successful then move on to 2. 2. Last phoneme or sound. “ “ If 80% successful then 3. 3. Middle phoneme. “ “ if 80% successful then move on to blends. 4. 4. Blends Initial or final. “. “ Blending has big gains. Use without letters initial just phoneme. (I use colors here.) Subtitling and addition use with letters. Use nonsense words to double check.

Actually, our guest expert emphasized the benefits of integrating PA with letters in this video. So that's what we do most of the time. But there are certainly times when blending without letters is all one can do...readingsimplified.com/phoneme-segmentation-blending-oral/
