Just a thought for parents wanting to wait… when kids are without parents (youth group, sports, etc), they are surrounded by phones. Teach them to politely speak up and ask an adult or friend to borrow a phone if they need to call home. Any reasonable adult will understand and if not, I shouldn’t be leaving my child with them. In the case of leaving kids home, have a “family phone” to be kept in a public area. Assigning a phone to a child makes them feel more at liberty that it is their possession and they have control over it. It’s more likely to become “a part of them.” However, this is super helpful info to have as we are currently navigating this with our 16 year old. Thank you.
