Couldn't have timed this better; I'm polishing up a lot of materials and playing around with these terms, seeing what looks good, and here's a video neatly explaining how it all works - and with helpful visuals. Great reference, thanks!

I've been using sfm for about 4 years all I've known about phong was boost and exponent. this is a complete game changer, thanks for sharing this knowledge summed in about 8 minutes lmao.

What is the name of tool you using in video?

in case youre still wondering its half life model viewer (hlmv.exe in the bin). You can check lighting like in the video by messing with colors in options and moving the light by holding ctrl+left click.
