Ok, I'm so up for these assignments. Finally, a channel offering challenges directed at adults! By the way, I'm 49 years old and have only been using my camera for around 6 months, so it's safe to say I'm a complete novice. Please be gentle with me. I got myself a journal, put 14 shots of my cats in it and instantly realised just how much help I need! Bring it on Ted.

I'm a little late to the party, but decided to do this assignment while I find the other assignments. I finally settled on a jar of marbles and tried all sorts of things. Thanks so much for this series!

I was kinda down and not sure if I should follow this, but then I thought to myself, f*** it, let's take a couple of pictures with my phone and see where this goes; as I was taking pictures and running out of my usual framing ideas I stated to get more creative with my shots, I think I have a couple of keepers and now I'm exited! :D TL;DR Thank you Ted!

Thank for these assignments. I am very goal oriented. Go to blank, take a few photos of blank and move on. I took 50 pics of a statue and found the best photos were not of the front of the statue but of the back and of a reflection of the statue in a window. It really opened my mind to the idea of looking everywhere for the great shot.

Some questions - if we, for example, decide to shoot an object, are we allowed to move it or we have to move our angle of view. Also, are we allowed to add other things to it? Sorry, I didn't quite get the '"take a photo 10 different ways" part. Greetings!

ZnakaProds have another listen. Ted specifically mentioned different times. For landscapes that means different lighting, different clouds, potentially different content. He did imply different poses for portraits. If I'm going to photograph a local sky scraper, expect I'll point my camera in different directions, use different lenses, stand in different places, choose my times to have people present or not, cars driving one way or another. One image, ten ways to process it would be interesting.
@alun20078 жыл бұрын
Be creative. That's the point. :) Ten different results! Angle, lighting, focal length, depth of field, abstract, macro, etc.

After watching this episode I started my notebook today and after a few minutes I already have 8 possible topics in my book that could be worth shooting a series of 10 images. I'm not sure if I have the time for more than one series but I think I will have a series of 10 in the next 7 days. Didn't think about equipment yet because that's possibly not the most important part here. The idea of taking 5 photos, putting them in the notebook, sleep over it and then take the other photos later sounds good.

This is a great assignment, and gets to what I consider essential to photography. We only really see things when we've looked at them different ways. I did a set of still-lifes of an empty cup. But when I'm outside photographing nature, or taking stil-lifes, or whatever, this is how I always work, if possible. I'd like to also note that Monet didn't just paint the scenes in different times of the year, but also different times of the day, and in cloudy and sunny light. He would work on several canvases, and switch as the light switched - we have it so much easier as photographers.

Variations, very interesting, you use musical variations as part of it, this is fine but they are set in concrete, I play New Orleans style clarinet, so every time I play its always different, its also known as collective improvisation because what we call the front line(trumpet, clarinet and trombone)are all improvising at the same time and we have to listen to each other to hopefully play something of value and it also varies between variation(improvisation) and harmony, photography you use your eyes, jazz you use your ears, hopefully I have not bored you with this, love your videos.

Interesting how you speak on light on the same subject ... I always tell those in my workshops that it's one of the most important lessons .. Pick something that you have easy access to .. say something close to home, or something on your commute ... Study the light at different times of the day, even (or perhaps especially) on days when you think the light just isn't good for a shot .. (we too often stop ourselves from shooting) .... Take those images and ensure you make notes as you shoot .. then when you have a small body of work on the same subject ... review them and especially read the notes ... a valuable lesson Great first assignment .... Cheers for championing this ....

Talked to someone who studied at a photography school. They did something similar. One day their teacher gave them an assigned called "Egg and A4". In black and white. All you had was a boiled egg and a sheat of white paper in A4 size, and your lights. The teacher wanted at least 8 large prints that was interesting, and they had two days to do it.

Listen, As long as you learn composition you can still produce good images, so when you get an actual camera it will be that much easier. People really get caught up in gear, yes it makes thing way easier but I think starting with basics is probably the best way to learn. Good luck

I understand what you are saying, I have taken better pictures with my phone than with a Cannon 500d, maybe it's because I have it with me all the time and it's comfortable to use. However, I would love to get a good film camera, learn all about it, and take my time producing images, thinking about the concept, the setting, the lighting. Ahh, it gets me excited when I think about it, it's almost like a meditative work. Thanks for the advice and the good wishes!

The assignment made involuntarily. I work for the hotel in the mountains. I try to carry my camera with me as frequently as possible. The result is "1000 shades of Mt Skrzyczne". A 4 year sequence of frames made in different seasons, different time of day, different snow/mist/rain, different skies and clouds. Same mountain. Something like "Brooklyn Boogie". ;-)
