Snap focus is easily my favorite feature of all time. High or low contrast back lit scene? Multiple subjects going in and out of frame? Fast moving subject? It doesn't matter. The camera will fire at the distance you set. It's like a shotgun. Only thing I wish is if we could change the zone focus distance on the fly with the toggle switch. Default setting exposure comp, press in, snap distance meter setting adjustment without a menu to look at. Just make it no different than ie. the exposure comp adjustments. This would also over-ride the quick menu ability but this is a small sacrifice for fastest shooting operation. Would almost be rangefinder level control. Almost 🙃

That would be so great! What I do is I have the U modes in MF so it is by default focusing at less than 1m for super close shots, and a longer distance in Snap focus. By switching back to U1, I have access to that super close distance again. This way I have always three focusing options, depending on whether I full press/touch the screen, half press first for pre set MF, or AF. I wished that if you are in MF and use snap, the original preset distance were kept after taking the shot, so I don't need to switch between modes.

This is beautiful content. Much admiration for SenpaiTako, he got me into fujifilm with his X-T10 review back in the day, and I always read his fujilove articles. Snap focus jousting seems like the best way to practice. I just bought my dog a 3m leash for zone focus practice, so I can get a subconscious feel for the distance.

I was about to buy the GR III x but i read it still has issues about getting hot, is that still an issue or it depends if your are lucky or not ( manufacturing inconsistencies)?
@SamuelStreetlife2 жыл бұрын
I have two GRIII's and one GRIIIx. Never had any overheating issues neither did my GR's ever get very warm. But I know someone who had an overheating warning on his GRIII. I think it also depends how you use it. I only turn my camera on when I want to take a picture. I dont review images with the lens open (you can open playback without turning on the camera). Just my experience.

@SamuelStreetlife2 жыл бұрын
Some brands (like fujifilm) have features to limit the focus range. But don't know of any other camera who has something like snap focus. The XF10 from Fujifilm has something similar but limited to two distances only.

I don't understand the difference between snap & zone focusing. They appear to be the same.
@EdwargGz2 жыл бұрын
Looks like the same but you can’t change it on the fly like in a Leica lens per example.
@SamuelStreetlife2 жыл бұрын
Zone Focusing in the traditional way is using manual focusing and setting the focus distance manually on the lens. Snap focus does the same but you can always access autofocus at any time while keeping a set distance ready for snap focusing (Snap focusing is activated when full pressing the shutter button. If you half press the shutter, you get autofocus). This is a unique feature in all GR cameras.
