I love how this mission was rebalanced so expertly without the blackhawk. That rule of returning to base may be weird, but it works great. That photo finish shows exactly how BLUFOR and OPFOR were so neck-and-neck, right to the end. Brilliant. Man, Caesar Merlin has become the new Dark Business! _But I do still miss Dark Business very very much._ :)

Well, they are obviously very different missions, but they share an element of bloodless intrigue that other missions don't have. If DB never makes the full transition to A3 (and we have seen at least one play-through), as a viewer, I am perfectly happy with CM. And yes, that bloodless intrigue more often than not turned very bloody in DB! :D

56:44 *Ghostboots:* "I've been captured from pretty early on." ...rewind to 9:20. *Dslyecxi:* "Phantom 1 marked a strobe, looks like people are being captured there, so MARSOC may be in the process of getting captured." :D EDIT: You should've trusted your instinct, Dslyecxi.

I've been wondering this for years but what is the metal pin/meat thermometer looking thing that pokes through the windshield of the littlebird?
@colbywhite71989 жыл бұрын
I just meant it looked like a meat thermometer and I've always thought it was to get air temperature but wouldn't flying around at 130+ mph give you a super inaccurate reading?
@throngcleaver9 жыл бұрын
+Colby White You may be thinking of the wind chill effect, which doesn't apply to a dry surface. At the airspeeds of a typical light aircraft, speed won't affect the temperature of the probe. It does matter on high performance aircraft, but those will have a computer to monitor all sorts of things like altitude, airspeed, total temperature probe reading, whether or not the deice elements in all the probes are powered, and will calculate the corrections necessary for the flight control and mission computers and whatever else on the aircraft that uses that data. At lower airspeeds, adiabatic temperature changes (ram airflow over the probe) is very low and not a factor, but friction at high speeds is. If a typical OAT probe is wet, (flight in rain) it will normally show a slightly lower temperature, or at least the temperature of the rain drops, which might be very cold.

Dslyecxi doesn't need fuel. Heck, he doesn't even really need a helicopter, but it's kind of hard for him to carry nine guys AND an umbrella.
@AFOKHAOS9 жыл бұрын
No way near seal enough Dslyecxi, you should've been doing shit like turning of the engine and coasting in complete silence, then turning the engines on before hitting the ground to be super covert. That's if you want to be in the highest speeding, low dragging, dark watering category of special forces anyway. Besides that though, it's great watching these Caeser Merlin videos, even simply hearing the radio chat makes the situation sound tense.

39:32 "Copy that, secondary now, we've gotta get MARSOC out first" *Dslyecxi:* "Unless this guy is not actually MARSOC..." I laughed so hard! I was really suspicious of that from the moment the Marines weren't sure whether he was or wasn't MARSOC. You'd think the liaison would be smart enough to make it known that he is who he is. So what was the deal, +Dslyecxi? Was Frag actually pretending to be MARSOC? If not, was it just miscommunication?
@-ZETA-9 жыл бұрын
+Headrock It was a miscommunication, to put it simply.
@headrockbeats9 жыл бұрын
Zeta Ah! Thank you kindly for the answer! Could I trouble you to explain it further? (only if that's ok...)
@-ZETA-9 жыл бұрын
+Headrock When asked if he was the MARSOC liaison, he either misheard or did not understand the question (he was having audio issues, from what I understand), and answered in the affirmative. The enemy was already in close pursuit, so we had no real time to properly verify this. Because of his communication issues, we couldn't seem to redirect his movement, so he just kept running roughly north. This meant that the BLUFOR guys trying to wrangle him kept losing contact with him while they were also trying to evade the OPFOR. It came to a head on that hill you see in the video, where we went hot to take down the pursuing enemy and collect him before he was pulled out of our reach. It didn't become known that he was NOT the liaison until we hit the 15 minute remaining mark (right before Dslyecxi picked him up) and the ACTUAL liaison's marker updated to differentiate him. So, we made a hasty assault on the collection point to recover the actual target.
@headrockbeats9 жыл бұрын
Zeta Thank you very much for the detailed answer. From Dslyecxi's POV it certainly did look like he was doing it on purpose for some unfathomable reason, so it's nice to have the record set straight about what was going on there. Though, on second thought, that is a very interesting possibility - to have one of the survivors (at random) receive instructions to pose as the MARSOC, or something similar. This video is a great example of how unexpected events in the scenario can make things so much more tense and interesting...
@-ZETA-9 жыл бұрын
+Headrock It worked out well for him in the end, I guess. If I'd known that he wasn't the liaison and was one of the other survivors I would have very quickly abandoned him out there and refocused my teams elsewhere. Too many enemy in the area to try and recover a single guy that isn't the priority objective. There were others we could've been going for at that time, but because we thought he was the VIP we stuck it out.

Question! Well questions, why the short refuelling stops as apposed to a longer stop so you can be on station for longer ? What was with one guy pretending to be marsoc ? Is that part of the Misson or am I being generous? And lastly great vid, thanks
@Xoron9 жыл бұрын
My guess is that the Littlebird's fuel capacity is limited in this mission for balancing reasons. A chopper that could stay on station for the whole mission would probably be op.
@pkisbest9 жыл бұрын
+Xoron or he needs to get back into the AO quickly in order to allow for fast pickups
@colbywhite71989 жыл бұрын
+pkisbest yeah I thought that too but it seemed to stop before he took off so I think it is actually limited, not 100% on that though.
@Xoron9 жыл бұрын
+pkisbest If you watch closely, the GUI in the top right says "Refueling completed" (at the same level both times he refuels) which indicates that the game stops the refueling process due to fuel level limitation set by the mission. Otherwise you would fuel up at the stat of the mission and never RTB for fuel during the mission.
@pkisbest9 жыл бұрын
+Xoron yeah I noticed that, I think to do a pickup rule wise, they have to RTB after ground fire team makes contact or something

Why don't you top off the fuel tank more? The time spent waiting to refuel saves infinite amount of time flying back for a second (or third depending on mission length) refuel. Just drives me crazy when I am watching it.

The fuel/refuel is limited as part of the actual mission design mechanics.
