i tried to recreate this and the graphic pen filter was looking superrr different and kind of messed up the ability to even see the image at all... anyone know why that could have happened?

If you want the same mask on another layer, hold Alt (Option on Mac?) and drag it from one layer to the other. 🙂

Because your image is in 16 bits. go to Image>Mode and put it in 8 bit

Mine when I go to Halftone Pattern and Graphic Pen no matter what I do, the image is all black

I know this late but just in case you haven't found out how to do this, all you have to do is invert the white/black color boxes at the bottom left. What you see at 4:27 is the black square on top of the white square (bottom left part of your screen)
