I'm very interested in creating an array of 100W LEDs like you've done here to shoot high speed projectile impacts, hoping to get a flash duration of 500ns to 1ms, like you've done here, but I'm having some trouble figuring out an effective way do it. I'm still pretty new to the world of electronics, and I was wondering if you could give me a basic run down of how you overdrive the LEDs and what you're using to control the duration of the led pulse?

Nice test, but I dont think it's accurate. The Xenon can reach peak brightness much faster than the leds can. So, for the Xenon when it receives the fire signal, it may take 500ns to reach peak brightness whereas the LEDS may take 2us. I am no camera guy, but if its possible to adjust the time for the flash signal I would try that to fully prove that that leds just wont cut it. gotta give the leds more time to get to full power first before the photo is taken.

wy aren't you flashimg directly on the dremel with the led?
