Wow that's actually really impressive! I mean sure you have to crop into your video a bit, but I can picture if you're shooting in 4K and you usually edit for 1080p, you'd still get really quality video! I want one really bad!

Hi Robert! SteadXP+ uses the stereo audio input of your camera to synchronize itself with video recording. However, with an appropriate adapter (not included), you’ll be able to plug an external microphone and record a mono audio channel from your camera.

That's some impressive stabilised footage. The problem I can see is that the device isn't useful on a sub-4K camera. For example, if I'm shooting on a camera which has a maximum 1080p video mode, then the stabilised footage will be cropped down to 720p. So for best picture quality you're essentially limited to 4K-capable cameras, which cancels out a lot of DSLRs.

Lok, I'm wondering if you are able to use face detection on your Sony when you do your close- ups talking? Sure would help with the focus shifting.

Hi JohnyTechReview! The treatment is much more faster than any current video stabilizer software. With a core i7 processor, you’ll enjoy real-time preview and a rendering in 25fps for a 2.7K footage (12fps for 4K).

Interesting device, even though it does crop a bit, I wonder if the quality is much better when using this device, or is it much faster to stabilize video with this device ? The "Not OK" stick is a great tool, I like it a lot. And the reactions :-)
@SteadXP
@SteadXP 8 жыл бұрын
Hi Dennis! As other video stabilizer softwares , yes there's a crop of the video so a small loss of quality. With SteadXP, the treatment is much more faster and the result is more efficient due to the data movements recorded during the shooting, used by our algorithms to stabilize the footage. Of course it exists plenty solutions of video stabilization, each one has its strengths and weaknesses.

My SteadXP+ just arrived. I was really interested when I backed this in October 2015 (that's right, almost 20 moths ago), but now I'm pretty skeptical. First, you only get the box without any accessories. All this is listed on the website, but still, it's a bit of a let down that I have to order more stuff before I can even start using it. I need to get a GoPro Hero 3 (not 4 or 5) battery? Fine if you have a go pro, but I don't. Why not just AAA? Now I have to spend another $20 just to test thing. I had planned to use it with a Canon EOS C100 because it is a bit heavier than DSLRs so gimbals for it are still pretty expensive. The C100 is locked to 1/48 shutter and 23.98FPS HD so I'm not sure it is even going to work. Now, you may say I should have known this going in but it was really hard to figure all this out when I backed the Kickstarter in October of 2015. So, it's a Kickstarter and all that, but do I really want to buy a battery that I can't return just to test this thing? Also, the @steadxp youtube channel is empty.

+Jeffrey Baker All good info. Thanks Jeffrey. Right now it sounds like you are lucky to have one given a few of the other stories on here. If you take a look on Amazon/eBay you should be able to pick up a cheap 3rd party battery for less than $20 (Amazon UK has a charger and 2x batteries for £11) Please keep us updated with how you get on. We'd be interested in both the experience of using it and just how it works on a C100. Has anyone else received their SteadXP yet?
@jeffreybaker2442
@jeffreybaker2442 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for battery info, @Photogearnews. The issue with the C100 is that is locked at 1/48 shutter and SteadXP recommends 1/250 for best performance. If true, this a bummer because it limits the device to high frame rate use and cameras that can shoot 120fps 1080 or 60fps 4K... But I'll see and report back.

Mostly copied and pasted from another reply. The main thing is that this is cheaper and less bulky than a mechanical solution like a gimbal (which is better in actual resultant image quality). Someone asked how it compared to other post-processing methods like Warp Stabilization in Adobe Premiere Pro. Here is my reply to that. As someone who uses Warp Stabilization in Premiere Pro on a near daily basis. This device has sensors that can directly measure the motion of the camera, while warp stabilization has to analyze every single frame and make a "guess" at what the original motion was (which is difficult if there are irregular or moving objects in the scene confusing the algorithm). That means the video from this device will be smoother (more precise compensation), with less of the frame lost to cropping (again due to more precision), it will also run on your computer significantly faster (since there is no frame by frame image computation algorithm going)... so what might normally take 15-20 mins to "analyze" a 3 minute segment in Premiere Pro, this should be able to do in almost real time. Also again because of the high precision, it can eliminate rolling shutter distortion as well (Premiere Pro Warp Stabilizer will leave that you end up with a really jelly distortion of the image if the camera shakes too much). Of course it isn't all rainbows and unicorns. This device uses the audio channel to embed the information into the video file (so I am pretty sure you lose audio unless you use an external recorder). It also isn't very effective for fast moving object in low light where the shutter speed is low (below 1/60) because it can't correct blurring occurring within each frame due to a long exposure time. BTW... while this device sound great. It is literally a year behind schedule (they were originally planning to ship March 2016). So take everything with a grain of salt as I backed it on Kickstarter Sept 2015 and am still waiting for it to be shipped :P
@SteadXP
@SteadXP 8 жыл бұрын
In fact you're totally right @Lonerider! But this time it's the right one, no more delays :) Shipping starts in Feb. 20th, with the Kickstarter backers who chose the "6 weeks offer". Then the calendar will respect the chronological order of commands: super early and early backers at the beginning of April, the rest of the backers in April and the pre-buyers at the end of April-early May. #SteadXPiscoming
@lonerider68
@lonerider68 7 жыл бұрын
@SteadXP today is March 5. On Feb 27th a you admitted that you failed to ship any units despite the "no more delays" promises you made dozens of times, all the while you were still saying units were shipping (I see posts up the Feb 24th saying units were shipping and that early backers would receive there units in the coming week) despite the fact that your manufacturing equipment was broken and you were completely blocked on shipping. You mentioned that the instruction manuals hadn't arrive either (were they late, the devices themselves took an extra year to start making, surely you could have ordered the manual a few months earliy... even then, I'm sure 100% of backers would have been fine download the manual from the internet if meant receiving their orders a week or two earlier). The lack of updates makes me thing you are still failing to ship a single unit two weeks after you "no more delays" shipping date.

Been waiting a long time for this as I was one of the Kickstarter backers. Hope this guy is wrong and it is MUCH better than the OSMO which is pretty much crap in my opinion and regret ever having bought the DJI Osmo which even with the Z axis is pretty abysmal. The SteadXP team are quite innovative and have obviously worked extremely hard on this project funded by Kickstarter. I am really looking forward to using it on my (soon to arrive) GH5 with Leica Lens, I expect great results. My only concern is how long is it before one of the big camera manufacturers embeds it in to one of their products,maybe when we get 6K cameras then we can crop down to 4K??

Hi there! Of course it exists plenty solutions of video stabilization, each one has its strengths and weaknesses. What makes SteadXP attractive compared to a gimbal is indeed its compactness and the freedom of movements it allows while shooting. Take a look to this article from Lok's friend, Dan, to see how SteadXP can offer new filming possibilities: www.newsshooter.com/2017/02/02/steadxps-image-stabilisation-tested-on-the-charters-pole-without-a-gimbal/

I think that whilst 1080 is still the norm for most internet uploads, then shooting 4K with the SteadXP and having a huge amount of the frame to move around stabilisation is great. Like you say, you'll need to shoot a bit wider because of the crop factor. By the time 4K becomes the norm, cameras will be shooting 6k and probably 8k, so this type of stabilisation still has a place, even if it isn't perfect and has some compromises.

@Lok Cheung They've been promising to finally ship on Feb 20th... and even posted a photo that day of units supposedly being shipped that day. The next few days they were assuring people that it was only a matter of time that backers who orders were in "processing" would be shipped and they would get a tracking number, then on Feb 28th, they admitted that zero units had actually been shipped so far as in the previous week a machine broke (and they never mentioned it). That was a week ago, it's now two weeks past their "much delayed, be we promise this time" shipping date (you can see them say it here in this discussion thread for your youtube video - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXXPqGZ7l5qFbac&lc=z121e3j5cr3atb20m233wzzq1xios3d4l04.1486397473592209) and they have gone silent since then.

the dumbest way to review some stabilisation system or steadycam ist to do it with wide angle lenses which are the most uncritical lenses under "shaky" conditions. While all the reviews are checking the gear at the edge of the possible as for instance, Low Light at 24800 and over, dynamic, clipping, noise,..under impossible circumstances we usually never work. Really wanna see once a review of some stabilisation system, steadycam or whatever being checked with critical lenses..over 50, 85mm. Then you will really see the differences.

Worse crop than an FZ2500 in 4k. Atrocious. Warp, Mercalli, both do a better job with less crop just from particle tracking. Plus it does not remove image knock which is very problematic on the GH4. The fact is, in the last two years IBIS on Panasonic and Olympus cameras has totally surpassed this kind of add-on box - same accelerometer gyro input but no crop and clear sensor feed.
