Always love the vlogs with context and content that goes beyond photography. Okay, we both live in areas that people pay real money to come to visit but knowing your own area, wherever you live, is always going to give you a big advantage and save you travelling costs.

Thanks Iain, great to know people appreciate to non-photography stuff as well. I was up on Dartmoor again this morning and it was a special morning, and it only took 40 mins to get there. We are both lucky to live in such rich landscapes. :-)

When Charlotte Bronte described Dartmoor in her novel Jane Eyre, I visualized it much like it is in your video. Just a stunning location. I hope to make it over someday. Thanks for the tour.

Thanks Daniel! It's a location I've wanted to shoot again for some time, but each time I went the conditions weren't "right", so I was over the moon when the light finally came up on the tor. There's so much to learn about Dartmoor....I've barely scratched the surface!

Great video Julian - From knowlege the rail tracks you mentioned would have been on an Anti Tank range. Some sort of motorised trolley with a tank target on top would move from left to right, allowing the soldier to perfect ones aim. These days we use electric trolleys but based on a similar principle.

Thanks mate! :-) It would have take proper skill to shoot a moving target. I said in the video it was about 400m to the target, but what I didn't mention were the cross winds! Interesting to know they still do a similar thing but with electric trolleys. I would imagine communications these days is via radio/sat phones rather than a hard wired telephone system?

Your summing up was spot on. Just to walk the moors is exhilarating, taking everything in, and discovering new sight's and place's. My wife absolutely loves Dartmoor and, (this is the best bit) really doesn't mind me setting up the tripod and taking the time to capture a scene, and if you've ever shot medium format film you'll know how long that takes 😅. I shoot with a Fuji GSW 690😊

@@jbairdexp I've been following you for some time now, and you produce some of the best landscape images on utube. I find it remarkable that there isn't a Julian Baird book of the British landscape. Your work is remarkable, from concept to print the images you produce are just stunning. SO... could there be a landscape book by Julian Baird in the pipeline? I'd certainly buy one. Keep up the good work mate, your inspiring a lot of people. 👍👍👍
