@@brianbeattyphotography Definitely. I'm not too worried about COVID. By then we'll all be vaccinated or whatever. I just don't have the time this year. I was actually going to go this April. I'm going to Utah for a photo conference on like the 16-19th and was going to do AH and DV before the conference, and then southern Utah after, but its just way too far out of the way. I don't want to spend all my time driving. And to be honest, there are things I can see between Las Vegas and Kanab. I've never been to the southwest so... everything is new. I'll do AH next year.

I'm seriously jealous! Both of your 5DSR and your luck at the Alabama Hills! The couple of times I've been there, nothing but clear blue boring skies! I was almost ready to pull the trigger on a 90D instead of the 5DSR since the 90D is newer and "better" and all. But your videos have convinced me the 5DSR was the right choice in the first place. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work.
@brianbeattyphotography3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Mike! I definitely didn't realize how lucky I got with the first morning's weather. The second day seems to be much more of the norm - clear skies where the Sierras glow as the sun rises. The 5DSR is the best camera I've owned. Despite a little less dynamic range the the R (my video camera) and the 80D/90D, the clarity and image size more than make up for any limitations. Newer isn't necessarily better :). Thanks for tuning in!

@@AlanChunkyMunky awesome, congrats! It's such an amazing camera. finicky - but you'll grow to love that part of it too! Yes, I set it at ISO 100 and do auto shutter. I used to do the 2s timer but found that motion blur was still a problem about half the time because the resolution is just so high. It's a really sensitive camera. 10s seemed to long, so I got the shutter release. I also used to live near the coast, which makes using the timer challenging to get the right compositions. The shutter release is just better in all ways I've found. Here's the one that I use: amzn.to/45egsSJ

I can see that you are really now into sunrises Brian !! After the disappointment of the flat sunset sky who would have imagined the light show that was in store for the morning. Absolutely love it when that happens and like you say , you’re in the right place at the right time . Funny how sunrise makes you whisper too - like it’s total respect for the time if day . The images speak for themselves Brian - just stunning light and colours in a spectacular scenic landscape up in the mountains. I tend to take vertical panos with scenes like this btw and may be worth considering? Just a thought and not a criticism at all . Fabulous film and a delight to watch - all the best 👍🏻👍🏻
@brianbeattyphotography3 жыл бұрын
Haha - I knew you were going to say exactly this after seeing this video posted! I've definitely been convinced to be all in on sunrises. I was whispering too because it was so quiet, I was convinced that others sleeping nearby would hear. You're right about the panos, I was in a bit of a hurry and just grabbed them the way I was already set up. And, I wanted to make sure I got it before the light changed! This morning was a bit different too in that I only wanted to capture the narrow band of light on the peaks. Above the pano was mostly grey cloud and below was brown dirt. Glad you enjoyed it! I think you'll really like Pt 2 when I get around to it. Best, Brian

Everyone who photographs the Alabama Hills shoots the "light at dawn" shot we have here. For most, it comes out poorly, because of the extreme contrast or range of light intensity between the sunlite upper peaks and the foothills and intermediate valley in the foreground. Think split ND filters or layering multi-exposures in Photoshop to retain some detail in each area. Here, he was lucky to have some misting and low clouds to filter the sunlight while allowing the foreground to be opened up by its usual pre-dawn sky, which cut down that contrast problem. Nice going.
@brianbeattyphotography3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Randall! Glad you enjoyed the video 👍. I definitely felt very fortunate to have these conditions. The next day in my part 2 video was very clear and I had to manage the higher dynamic range as you mentioned. It looked beautiful at sunrise but nothing like this stormy morning 😎
