I'm an old guy, not very mobile, but I have been enjoying this new hobby for about 6 months. My scope is the Seesrar S50, and I do all my observations from my deck. Bortle 4 here works. I am envious of you getting to a 1 or 2 location. Wish I could. Good video, great shots. Thanks.

Well done...love your passion...it comes through in your video! The shot was beautiful and thank you for being honest about it being a composite. You can actually shoot some beautiful Milky Way scenes without compositing...don't even need a tracker. Some stacking and a nice foreground, good planning and luck for clear skies are all you need. The ones you capture that way are the ones you treasure the most...I promise. Just found your channel and have subscribed and look forward to more content Ryan! Best to you!

I actually prefer to shoot my milky way pictures without the foreground being a composite, the only reason I had to do that for this shot is because the location I was confined to wasn’t able to get the milky way rising over the mountains. So I did a little photo magic. :) Pretty much every other shot I take is genuine in that sense. Thank you for watching!

Awesome shot, brother. I'm just a little north from you (near Madison), and used to visit the Yerkes Observatory frequently. There are some pretty decent skies in that area as well, and it would be a short drive from Chicago. The observatory itself is incredible to tour as well.

Just went to Salida, CO at an Air B&B. It was bortle 1 or 2, I was able to see the milky way with my eyes alone. It was a insane experience, almost overwhelming with 1000s of stars in the sky. Glad you got to see the same!

You are or were, not too far away from from one of the larger pier rental places. Something else that's a thing is the Glacier Point Road. This is above the valley floor and straight across from Half Dome. And it's the site of more than a few star parties. Depending when you were at the park, the Glacier Point Road may not have been open. Worth a visit next time!

@@oryanastro The area has a lot to explore and if you're willing to travel through the park (Hwy 120), it's also very dark. You're also able to avoid the trees :) You may need to camp but it's worth it.

Funny enough I was doing the exact same thing on the exact same night as you. Except I was on the summit of Haleakalā, at Bortle 1.5 and my rig was deep sky dedicated. It was my first time below B4 and my mind was blown, especially getting to fall asleep with the milky way looking back at me. Truly an experience everyone should have

Thank you! My tripod isn’t great, I haven’t been able to invest in a new one yet, but I would recommend the Apertura carbon fiber tripod if you’re using this mount seriously. Nothing beats having a reliable tripod. If that’s too expensive, there are tons of other options that are much less expensive

Nice vlog and image, tho I am not sure if I agree that lanscape astro images are "almost always" a composites. I mean sure you have tracked sky blended with a static landscape, which is a composite, but a lot of astro landscapers do take images from same tripod position and same orientation :D.

The final image is a stack, but it’s not a panorama. I did shoot in vertical for this, so it’s all from one angle. The only different angle in this picture is the foreground, which I composited on top.

I use a program called Epidemic Sound. You can start their subscription and get access to a ton of music and sound effects. It’s super useful and I couldn’t make these videos without it
