Thanks for such a gorgeous video!!! So beautiful! BREATH TAKING!!! It's like someone scattered diamond dusts in the sky! AMAZING! At the end ,though slugs are crawling on the grass reminded me of an incident happened to me a couple of months ago! I bought a pack of organic celery & found a black slug just like those in your video on it ! I 1st didn't know what that was! As I looked closer,it showed the antennas! I screamed!Thank god I didn't eat it! I released it outside.Hope he/ she survived! Lol . I'm gonna share this video w/ my friends & sister ! Thank you for this fabulous video!

HI Alyn. What app are you using on your phone to control the 6D and do you know if it will suit the 5D Mk1V? Another excellent video
@AlynWallace7 жыл бұрын
Nigel Pullen thanks Nigel. I used Photopills to plan the milky way and the other app I used is to control the star tracker not my camera. I have used qDSLR in the past though, you'll need an OTG usb cable
@NigelPullen7 жыл бұрын
HI Alyn - many thanks - around 7:20 into the video you control the settings on your camera with an app on your smartphone in order not to get any movement etc - whats the app called. Thanks again
@AlynWallace7 жыл бұрын
Nigel Pullen hi Nigel, as I mentioned above it controls the star tracker (star adventurer mini) which controls the camera. The app won't work without the star tracker which is why I mentioned qDSLR as it controls cameras with a smartphone only :)

When you've aligned your tracker with polaris, can you just move your camera around to aim it towards the M31? Or do you have to somehow tell your tracker to go to M31?
@richn17517 жыл бұрын
Quick question Alyn. How important is is it to work around the timings of the galactic core when shooting the Milky Way? I noticed this window was a few hours before you took your shot in this video.
@AlynWallace7 жыл бұрын
Rich N sorry Rich I don't quite understand your question? If you want to shoot the Galactic core then you'll have to shoot within the window but there's parts of the milky way visible all year round, just not as bright or interesting as the core
@richn17517 жыл бұрын
Alyn Wallace Alyn Wallace hi, I guess I was asking how important the galactic core is to a Milky Way image. I presumed it was crucial but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Cheers, very helpful.
@AlynWallace7 жыл бұрын
Rich N it makes for a better image because it is so much more brighter an colourful than the rest of the MW. But I didn't capture the core in the image in this vlog, it had already set

Hi Alyn, I'm thinking of getting a SkyWatcher mini. Do you need to use the phone app to control the camera or would it work using a standard intervalometer.
@AlynWallace7 жыл бұрын
Duncan Fenwick it's a bit of a pain in that respect to be honest you have to control through phone. You could set it to track for an hour using the phone to start and then use your own intervalometer. I justwish there was a physical button you could press to start sidereal tracking, without the phone. Not sure what they were thinking
@3Ddunk7 жыл бұрын
I have a Sony a7s and a6000 they don't have a cable for them only the old style Sony remote. Just been looking at my intervalometers i have a wireless Viltrox that has a 3.5mm stereo to micro usb cable..... 99% sure that will link them..hmmm

5:21 can we see this exact image with the naked eye ??????????????????????????????????????????????? If you say yes I will cry right now !!!!!!!!!!!!!
@AustinALiboiron6 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. The aperture of a lens like his is MUCH wider than the iris of the human eye, so it picks up more light, plus it collects the amount of light you'd see in 20 seconds into one image so certain things emerge into the picture that you wouldn't be able to see. This is why astrophotography is so important 😊

Hey Alyn! Very nice video! I'm actually very interested in the SkyWatcher Star Adventurer Mini and I have the same setup as yours (6D+70-200F4): how does the SA work with this gear? Did you find any balancing issue or difficulty in the SA to move the whole rig? Thank you!
@AlynWallace7 жыл бұрын
Hey Cristiano :) Yes the SAM works great with the 70-200 suprisingly easy to get decent alignment. Though I would recommend the iOptron Skytracker Pro over it because you don't need to control it via smartphone. Also you can use the polarscope on the ioptron whilst the camera is on there
@cristianosecci77297 жыл бұрын
Alyn, thank you for your reply! In the end I decided to buy the Star Adventurer "classic" edition: it's very well made indeed, although I did not yet have the opportunity to use it: overcast skies for days and days... :-(
