Yesterday I posted Episode 2, Season 2 of the Artist Series which is a film on photographer David Brookover. David is one of the best landscape photographers working today and it was an honor to include him in the Artist Series.
This is a behind-the-scenes view of how I filmed it.

The Art of Photography is my channel and I produce photography videos to provide a 360 degree look into the world of making images. We all want to get better so lets do this together!
I make videos covering famous photographers, photography techniques, composition, the history of photography, philosophy and much more.
I also have a strong community of photographers who watch the show and we frequently do social media challenges for photographers to submit their own work. I feature the best and most interesting on the show when we do these so come check it out and get involved!

I took a Platinum Palladium course in the UK so I can relate to this video. I had an amazing time and whilst I didn't pursue it further at home, I did learn to appreciate prints as beautiful objects. Since then I took up silver gelatin printing and have my own relatively minimalist darkroom. The film community has been amazing and those involved are always willing to donate time, energy or old darkroom equipment. Thanks so much for putting these videos together.

Years back I drove into Jackson for the very first time in the black of night just in time to catch some sleep before getting up early the next morning hours before daybreak and heading to the world famous Molten Barns to get some captures of the Tetons in the morning sunrise. I braced for the possibility that despite a locations notoriety often locations don’t live up to your slick travel brochures you have been pouring over. After arriving still in the dark I set up the camera and waited for daybreak. To my amazement my first visualization of the Grand Tetons at sunrise was a scene greater that anything I could have imagined. I has become one of those special lifetime experiences that will never be forgotten.

I spent two weeks in Yellowstone and two weeks in Grand Teton NP late last summer. Took several photos at the Ansel Adams Snake River overlook. Beautiful country. Going back this January for some winter adventures.

I loved the video with David Brookover and this video is great as well. I would love to see a video of some of Hidden Light working with their platinum and palladium processes. Masters of printing are so important to our work. The new take on the more introspective thoughts from the artists is great! Thanks for all you've done.

You remind me of my mentor in the 1980's, he loved his artistic angles regarding photography despite being a press photographer, his knowledge in photography was astounding, he used to tell me about printing processes in days gone by, and had a passion for printing on various fabrics ad materials.

David's gallery is real nice. Went there 2 years ago. Can't afford his images but really like looking at them. Now that I have seen the printing process I know why the price is correct. Maybe one day I can buy one.

I am so far behind with videos at the moment (far too much time in the darkroom since getting home, *cough*), Davids has been my favourite of the artist series so far. It has been so great to help fund a bunch of work that matters.

You're right on the money with the digital negative. We use an inkjet printer to make the negative at the same size as the final print. We'll go through the whole process with you when you come down and visit for a while :-) All David's Pt/Pd prints are actually pure palladium, which makes for a bit warmer print, with beautiful tonal graduation.

I was ninja'd on this but honestly: FLG is stunning, the drive down 89A to Sedona is one for the record books, then you can bust a U turn and take 89 north to 64...Desert View Drive. A lifetime of photo ops within a half a day of Flagstaff; even the Maverik station at the western edge of town afforded me a nuclear sunset while feeding the 420 ponies some 91 octane. Oh yeah....almost forgot, Hidden Light LLC! A state of the art artisanal film and print studio inside of an old church with occasional bats in the belfry. Walking distance to Route 66. And Route 66 Brewing Company. Sorry for gushing, but the high desert really is *that* special. Would love to see your take on it.

Can't fly a drone in the park,, probably not in the city either, Jesus Christ you cannot walk past many government BUILDINGs ( which in a way they all are) and use your cell phone to photograph the exterior art work so I dont think they want a drone flying around it's windows and roof. SO, YOU NEED TO fly it in your living room or back yard and then probably only until a neighbor complains,, so it's just like all freedoms that you think exist but don't,, like the as advertised freedom machine car you can buy complete with racing decals and off road equipment that you will not be free to go anywhere with AND CERTAINLY NOT FOR FREE!! SAME NO FREEDOM OF SPEACH BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT HAS DEFINED THINGS YOU CANNOT SAY OR YOU WILL BE ARRESTED FOR BREAKING ONE OF THE MANY LAWS THEY CREATED BY MANIPULATION....ITS A JOKE, A HUGE JOKE AND EVERY PRESIDENT A COMEDIAN.
