Photojournalism is a way to tell a story, and that story is created by the moments you capture in the field. Sometimes it's enough that events unfold in front of you, but sometimes a portrait helps tell that story better than anything else. People often wonder if it's possible to do powerful, intimate portraits without access to lights or studio.
Stephanie Sinclair spent the better part of the last 20 years integrating portrait photography into her documentary field work. In this video, Stephanie shares the backstories to some of her most iconic images, many of which are portraits made while on assignment for National Geographic and The New York Times.
Topics will range from conflict situations to gender issues, polygamy and the genetic condition of albinism.
Stephanie explains the many advantages to creating a portrait in your subject’s natural environment. Other topics will include camera and lens choice for low light situations, often needed for on location portraits.
