Fuji X-S1 hyper zoom

I bought it and had lots of fun so far with it. Shot about 7000+ images + dozens of videos. An extremely flexible piece of technology. I use it mostly in Program mode as I find the EXR mode generally selects higher ISO that I like using. IQ is very good but not quite that of a SLR with a larger sensor. I bought it because of the zoom range, macro mode, excellent EVF and lots more. It's not prefect though. But it's very good for the money. I saw a zoom lens for a Sony cam, that was 2000$! :-)

I own a few cameras. the XS1 is my first and only Fuji. and I am totally in love with the buttons, controls, and their layout. very well thought out. as for the menus, they could learn from Samsung's Fn-menu. but menus aside, the manual controls are awesome! this camera has got me checking out the X-Pro1 now.

The camera have good color and details. nice wide angle at 24mm and good zoom all in one. Fast startup and image processing. Great focus speed and accurate. Hard to manual focus with the electronic viewfinder at low light situation. Good auto function. I love the dedicated RAW button and the 2 Fn buttons. Video quality is not good. good to have when u go on a hike and want a camera that take wide angle shot and zoom in to a tiny bird in the distant. Always good to have one of this and a DSLR.

I have it and use it a lot. I have a good many other cameras. It is more than the sum of its parts so dont get too hung up on stats. It is the most versitile camera. It has a great high tech sensor that gives more than you can imagine for the size. Can handle so many situations. I really had a bunch of reasons why i should not like it but after you use it a lot you simply find yourself going for it over other more dedicated kits.

Matt, there is a point of this camera. I own it and it's alot lighter than my Nikon D7000 with the kit lens, making it easier to carry around. Long zoom, great HD video, very,very nice IQ and awesome macro with multipoint manual focus makes it worth a buy and carrying it around.

They are intuitive - much more than other cameras I've owned, including an old sony and less old nikon. For example, when you switch the mode button, and press menu, it brings you directly to the section relative to that mode's options. I'm just saying that Samsung's Fn-button menu is really good - good to the point that even Nikon has been seen imitating it lately. I hear that Fuji's new Q-menu is similar.

Funny, I have owned a number of DSLR cameras over my 40 years in photography and had likes and dislikes with each and every one. I really like the X-S1, even if it isn,'t a DSLR and is looked down upon in the photography class I attend. Scorn if you will, you won't when we compare photos. It's all a matter of learning to use the camera you have to it's capability. I bought this camera because of many of the features it has, and ... no extra lenses to lug around, .... Been there, done that .

I dont like where the Rec button located. I think that is where the AE/AF lock should be. I keep press the Rec by accident when I try to use the AF lock to lock the focus to my subject in the distant.

wow, nice that you review a bridge, many "pro's" think bridge-cams are not worthy to do that ... I have it for a year now, as a upgrade from a compact-canon, I think it offers a lot and is perfect for getting into photography and learning ... and, I got it new for 360€, what I think is a bargain

regarding sx50: a 1/2.3" sensor can't compete in image quality with a larger sensor. the X-S1 is unique in that it offers a 2/3" sensor, offering better low light performance, better control over depth of field, and better dynamic range than all of the other bridge cameras out there because of their 1/2.3". do I wish the X-S1 had a bigger sensor? a resounding yes! but it's the largest of it's category.

HS 50 use 1/2" sensor where as XS-1 is 2/3" sensor which is a lot bigger. HS series prodice slightly softer images although you can easily change it on Picasa or in camera settings.( I own HS-30 ) I think Fuji has followed a different path with AOSC sensors in X series mirrorless camers rather than expensive, bulky near SLR (XS-1 is probably bigger) superzooms and kept HS series as top of superzooms.

It is more of a update, The lens s 24-1200 on the S1 24-1000 on the HS50 The S1 is weather sealed and has built in WiFi.The HS50 is not weather sealed and you have to used a WiFi memory card

ERRATA: You made a mistake when you say GH3 is also a fixed lens. You were most likely thinking of the FZ200, which is thinner, but that is because the fz200 has a tiny sensor. at 1:35-1:40

the same with me. :-) I saw today a pic comparison between the X-S1 and the S1. Although I tend to the X-S1 for being Made in Japan, the Indonesian made S1 provides much more sharper pics. But I didn`t see samples taken with zoom.

CONN Warrior I picked the X-S1 because of its larger 2/3" sensor, and I'm *very* pleased with that decision. X-S1 is a great camera, imo.

When focusing the picture is freezing for nearly 1 second so it is completely impossible to shoot moving objects

No way does the HS50 or the SL1000 render a sharper/better image than the X-S1 with it's larger sensor and better glass. Had both the HS50 and and the SL1000 and sold them both. Still have and use the X-S1

I don't think this a good review at all.To start with the reviewer got the size of the sensor wrong!It's not 1/two thirds of an inch,it's 2/3 of an inch,which is quite a bit bigger,and much bigger than most compacts,and the same as Fuji's much acclaimed X10 camera. It's build quality is excellent,and no mention is really made of the superb viewfinder,which is better than some DSLRS! I thought his review patronising,and I think the XS-1 is a great alternative to my DSLR,with great image quality.

Hs50 vs xS-1?? The XS-1 image quality stomps all over the HS series cameras. Many are disappointed with HS50 with it's soft images and difficulty in locking focus, especially at the far end. HS50 has more reach, but gives up too much good image quality.

I don't see the point of this camera at all, it's too bulky to be a convenient carry everywhere camera, and the IQ is inferior to bottom of the range ILC's.
