I currently own the X-S1. It's an excellent camera overall. I've shoot over 7000 images in 2 years or so. I've had one of my images blown to poster size at a reasonable quality. And it's an image that I shot handheld at maximum zoom, including the 2x intelligent digital zoom. It's a great travel camera. If you like to pixel peep, you'll see the difference compared to a larger sensor camera. But, at normal magnification, the images are very nice. The only real annoyance is a blue blob in the center of some images, depending on the incident light's angle. And I've had a sunset go completely pink on me on one occasion. In video mode, at full zoom, if the autofocus looses focus you'll need to unzoom about half way for it to recover focus. Which can be annoying. But I don't do lots of videos, so it's not hugely important to me.
@pixelum20239 жыл бұрын
I've now replaced the X-S1 with the Panasonic Lumix FZ-1000, which is a great upgrade compared to the Fuji X-S1. It gives 20 MP images compared to 12, has MUCH faster and more accurate autofocus, is capable of shooting 4K video, doesn't have any color blob problems or other issues. The only slight drawback is that the zoom range s not quite as extended (24-400mm vs 24-600mm), due to the sensor being larger at 1" vs 2/3". The image quality is quite a bit better. Highly recommended.

@theTechnoclast Well basically the T3 and especially T3i offer much better image quality especially in low lighting conditions at high ISOs, but the Fuji cameras are generally great during the day, for zooming in or for macro photography. My S2000HD served me well for many years of macro shooting but eventually I was shooting insects in dark areas and it was just too noisy if I didn't bring a flashlight with me so I needed a DSLR.
@allinsiteUK2 жыл бұрын
I've had an x-S1 for 9 years and although it has done the job on most occasions with reasonable aplomb I have never managed to achieve Full HD results in video shooting. Sure, the files are full hd format, but the jaggies evident on diagonal image elements clearly show that upscaling has been applied to a significantly reduced pixel count capture stream. And yes, I do get a full 24mm coverage, so it is using the full chip area but only capturing from a combined matrix of pixels. Anyone else noticed the same, or are you achieving true 1920x1080 detail?

@krasav4ik82 Yep, there are always trade-offs. Have you investigated the specs & price of the D5100 (body only)? I've read that the movie mode on it is really quite good, if you can live w/o the zoom power of the X-S1, use your other lenses on the D5100 body. It might be good enough to get you the output you want, if the D5100 has the features you need on it? B&H (as an ex.) has the D5100 til the end of March on sale for less than $650 w/ free s&h., but it's back-order @ the moment.

I love technology and cameras as much as anybody, and I do give the X-S1 props for having the specs needed to be a good do-it-all camera. But I think what's missing in this comparison is this: which camera will actually help you fulfill your artistic goals as a photographer? Obviously the X-S1 fulfills 90% of what most people think they want out of a DSLR. But what happens when you try to compare the cameras in specific styles of photography (portraiture, landscapes, street, etc.)?

Part 2. You still don't get as much zoom for the price with the Canon and the 18-55mm lens, but the larger sensor with 6mp more resolution than the X-S1 is a strong inducement to buy the T3i if image quality is your primary goal. I do like the size and heft of the X-S1-it wieghs 2 lbs.-because it's easier to hold securely and comfortably and the extra weight makes it more stable at high zoom. It's also built like a brick with the all-metal chassis and metal knobs. Made in Japan too, not China.

Actually, the DSLR-shaped Fuji X-S1 has a 1.44MP electronic viewfinder. It has no reflex mirror. That's why it can take 7 shots per second over the T3i's 3 shots per second. It technically is a mirrorless camera.

***** and the build quality is really so good? the S1 seems to offer more ( I guess she is newer ), but the build will be not so good ... I want to upgrade from a point&shoot, but not dive into DSLR and read tons of books, so its maybe the right choice for me?
@wtomw110 жыл бұрын
The XS1 is a great camera to travel with because it is so versatile. It is extremely easy to use and learn on, and has lot of really great features with fantastic build quality that's better than a lot of DSLRs. It would make a great time first camera upgrade for someone wanting to take landscape pictures on vacation, or simple candid pictures of your family. But if you're looking for something that will give more professional pictures look else were. While it does give you really nice manual control to expose your picture properly, which is very desirable over a point and shoot. It takes good pictures don't get me wrong. I'm really being specific to depth of field and bokeh (quality of background blur). So if you want a camera for weddings or portraits or anything that your attempting to get professional images out of you'll want to spring for a DSLR with a decent lens, becuase the XS1's sensor is too small and the f2.8 aperture the camera boasts is an out right lie, and I being a complete novice when I bought the XS1 was very misleading. I forget what actual aperture equates to but its right around f11 give or take, which is awful in terms of aperture. So if you want something better than a point shoot so that you don't have to worry about your point shoot messing up your pictures anymore then XS1 is great, but if you plan on really working on your photography and want professional images DSLR is the way to go.
@thesheepherd990410 жыл бұрын
Thomas Cochran I own it now for a while and feel really good with it. Its really a allrounder, gives me more options then the point&shoot I have ( Canon SX220 HS ) and I think its a good step upwards in picture quality. I take my time learning, try things out or sometimes just use it on automatic, depending for what I use it ... I have still a long way to go, but I am sure the X-S1 was the right choice for me ( in value for money anyway ) right now ...

Fujifilm cameras provide very good image quality very close to a equivalent DSLR. But they have one very important drawback : They don't have optical image stablizations. They have have digital stabilizator which moves the sensor not the lens and that doesn't work very well when zooming.I recommend you all to check the Sony HX100V or 200V as well.

For average person the X-S1 is much more convenient and effective for recording pictures and video than an SLR kit. If you need a DSLR kit with constant aperture lenses and all that other paraphernalia - get a DSLR kit, of course it will cost you a lot more than the X-S1. If you want DSLR style look feel operability and great features without the inconvenience, plus Made In Japan quality the X-S1 is it. And if you want to deck it out with a flash, mic, remote release, filters you still can.
