I participated in a sampling effort of mixed stock Atlantic salmon fishery in Qaqortoq, Greenland. Atlantic salmon come to areas of the southwestern part of Greenland to feed before returning to their natal rivers to spawn. Some of these fish are subjected to capture by the people of Greenland, which have a catch quota they must stay under. Besides inventorying catch, fish are measured, weighed and subjected to sample collection including scales (for aging), tissue (adipose fin for genetics - to determine where they are from) as well as looking for fin clips and/or marks. PLEASE NOTE: MARINE MAMMALS CAN STILL BE HARVESTED IN GREENLAND. THERE ARE A COUPLE OF PHOTOS OF PORPOISE AND SEAL THAT WERE HARVESTED AND ARE PRESENTED IN THE FISH MARKET FOR SALE.
