Sometimes, instead of watching the video, I'll pause when he shows the design at the start and attempt to copy it without the tutorial. Then I'll look at the tutorial and see where our methods differ. It's actually a really good way for me to learn things by myself, so that if I see a cool style, I can try it myself without a tutorial.
