why are imaging plates more sensitive to radiation than film?

Great question. It boils down to quantum efficiency. Basically the molecules used to create digital receptors are more readily subject to ionization. A number of factors contribute - size, state, composition.

How latent image is formed in the PSP?
@RockTheRegistry2 жыл бұрын
Great question! It has to do with properties of the crystal in the active layer. Typically the material used is cesium iodide. When an x-ray photon ionizes the cesium iodide, the crystal changes it's structure. As this happens across the entire PSP, it creates a latent image. Later when the PSP is scanned by the laser, the crystals return to a more stable state, releasing energy in the form of blue-violet light which is picked by the photomultiplier tube and used to create the radiographic image.
