I think I needed to hear this "what are you willing to give up" thing. I need to stop playing so much videogames and work on my art. Thank u!

I just found you on twitter and gotta say that your coloring is amazing and your style is pretty cool! Even tho I'm practicing everyday I feel so frustrated because I never like my drawings, so i'm depressed like all the time ;; the thing that frustrates me the most is my coloring, it doesn't matter how hard I try, I can't find a coloring that makes me confortable or that suits me, idk

Thank you, and the feeling of frustration is most likely because the better you get at drawing the more easily you can spot mistakes, so your vision is always ahead of your skill, if you get what i mean. Only real advice I can give is to try and channel the frustration into motivation, and if you feel you have the most problem with colors then try to focus on that for a while, do specific color studies!

Thanks for the video man! I have a question, though. I struggle with discipline because I get so frustrated and angry by the time I get done with my goal (say like a few hours studying colors), and it makes me put off drawing for a long stretches of time because I don't want to feel pissed off again, especially doing something I love. Do you ever deal with that? Did you just keep on doing it even though you hated it? I often think if doing art doesn't make me happy anymore, what's the point? That mentality touches even basic, relaxing "fun" stuff like sketches too, I get mad and I quit because it's just infuriating and I'm unhappy with it. I was wondering if like there's anything you do that helps to get through that, or if ya just have to keep on truckin'?

You're welcome! And sorry to hear, yeah I think most artists feel that way at times. It's something that I personally have been feeling less and less the more i've been drawing, when I was starting out it was literally just daily frustration but the better you get the more you can kind of, identify when it happens, remember that you'll improve if you keep working and what you need to do to get past the feeling of frustration and use that as motivation instead. I'd say remember to take breaks when you get frustrated, try to remember why you're drawing in the first place, remember that you're always improving as long as you're drawing: You also improve your vision before you improve your skill, so you see problems easier than you know how to fix them, which gets frustrating but it's important to be able to identify. And i'd say most importantly draw what you love, which might sound obvious but a lot of artists think they SHOULD love drawing certain things in order to get work, fans, etc. Personally I drew fantasy art for the first 2-3 years I was drawing "seriously" and it was just bumming me out on a daily basis because I didn't really care about fantasy but everyone else wanted to be an artist for Magic the gathering so that's what I figured I had to do. And it's all about just identifying what's right for you. And then definitely breaking out of that comfort zone at times, but everything shouldn't be a struggle. So BASICALLY keep on trucking but maybe some of those things can help, haha.
