The project ‘PhotoVoice: Monkoxi Reconnection’ employed participatory methods using photography and storytelling to support youth in their path to reconnection with their territory, their Monkoxi culture and their forest. These methods aimed for students to go through an intergenerational dialogue between themselves, their surroundings and their community. Examples include Eliana, who documented her grandfather’s story through slavery and his fight for autonomy of the Lomerio territory; and APMIL (Association of Honey Producers of Lomerio) who are acting to protect both native and foreign bees in the face of threats from increasing forest fires. Photography and Storytelling allowed students to document the importance of ancestral knowledge to the communities of Lomerio, a step to see the greater value of their grandparents' knowledge and nature
