Maple Leaf ESL it seems a bit strange to me that some of your old lessons reach a great level of more than 20000 views, but some new ones struggle for just 1000. As I understand now, 3000 views a lesson is kind of rock bottom for promotion and things like that.

Thank you for the lovely lesson, and Would you mind to make a video about how to use “broke” and “broken “? I found it’s very confusing. 🙏

Piano best, simply put 'broke' is the past tense of 'break' while 'broken' is the past participle.

@FattahiJaouhar7 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrew, First of all, thank you very much for these excellent classes. I have just a little comment on the "to separate into parts" meaning of the verb to break. I think the phrasal verb to express this meaning is "break down into" (verb + two prepositions) and not "break down" (verb + one preposition). Am I right? Thanks in advance
@mapleleafesl61627 жыл бұрын
Hi Jaouhar, yes, you are correct. The phrasal verb 'break down' is usually paired together with 'into' when used with this meaning. However, in the following sentence, it might not be necessary: 'Let's break this piece of equipment down so we can fit it into the car'. Here, it is clear that we mean 'break this piece of equipment down INTO SMALLER PARTS' so it's not actually necessary to say the 'into' part. Great question, Jaouhar! Thanks for asking and I appreciate you checking out the channel :-)

You are great teacher! Keep it up! I have a question for you. What of those words the more commonly used in your country are? " constantly" or "consistently"? Correct me if I got something wrong.
@mapleleafesl61627 жыл бұрын
Both are very common adverbs but actually have slightly different meanings. If something happens consistently, it means that it happens with the same or similar result each time. For instance, if December is consistently a cold month, it means that each year, December is cold. and yet, December only comes once a year. Constantly, however, means that something happens all the time or regularly. For example, if John is constantly late for class, it means he comes late for class nearly every day, or at least regularly. Hope this helps.

break up also can mean to end. An usual example can be the school breaks up at 4 pm
@mapleleafesl61627 жыл бұрын
A less common usage of 'break up' but certainly true!
@turkishmauser11747 жыл бұрын
Maple Leaf ESL as far as i know , " break up " means also seperating into smaller parts For example : the soviet union broke up to smaller countries Please correct me if i am wrong , thank u!
@mapleleafesl61627 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is basically correct although I would say more accurately that the phrasal verb for your example would be 'break up into,' not just 'break up'. So it would look like this: The Soviet Union broke up into smaller countries.
@MrFmuniz8 жыл бұрын

'Break in' is like "get used to"?
@mapleleafesl61627 жыл бұрын
Junior, it could be although 'to get used to' can be used for many situations whereas 'to break sth in' is really only used for objects such as shoes, clothing, and so on. Hope this helps.

enigma enigma, I've never heard 'break in' being used to describe fruit or other food items. Typically we break in new clothing, shoes, maybe a car or other piece of equipment or something...but not usually edible things.
