We Winter Camp With Homemade Tent And Stove

Wife and I go for a winter campout in our homemade tent which was heated with our homemade stove. It was 15 degrees Fahrenheit but still quite comfortable in the tent. We have also done a video on how to make teh stove that we used in this video as well as a video on how to make the tent. Recently she told me the only childhood memory of her mom, was looking out the window waiting for mom to pick her up, but mom didn't show. Life can suck sometimes.

I don't remember much about our family camping because I was very young. What I do remember, was watching my Daddy with a long stick and a funny round thing with lots of string on it. He would whip the stick and the string would fly out into the water. Then he caught what Mommy said was a trout. Later, as a Girl Scout I learned quit a bit more. Thank both you and Mrs. Connie for sharing this winter camping with me.

I prefer cold weather camping, no bugs or roaming critters to deal with, at least less. I find it easier to get warm in winter, than cool in summer, in camp. The food looked scrumptious! Always love coming along with y'all ! I learn something every time.

Watching Connie mix the bread dough reminds me of me making my roll on deodorant mix. I don’t know if my mixing technique would help Connie or offer an alternative method sometimes, but I use a ziplock baggie to put my dry ingredients in and then blend them by shaking etc. Then I add my water and alcohol and vitamin E. Then I massage the bag until everything is mixed up well. Then, when I get the proper amount of water added, I cut the bottom corner of the baggie off and squeeze or “pipe” the mix into a roll-on dispenser. If I don’t use all that’s in the bag, and I never do, I use a twist tie to seal it off for next time. I could see a baggie being used to hold your dough or pancake dry ingredients mix for transport, then you add water, mix it by massaging it and then cut a big enough hole on the corner to pipe out the dough or pancake mix. No spoons or bowls to clean up and you can save unused mix for later by sealing the hole shut with a twist tie.

it was 80 today here in s. central Florida. I got cold watching your video and turned the heat on. It's 8:30 now cloudy, looks rainy. 85 tomorrow. I sleep in a -20 sleeping bag and when I get cold I put my 4 lb Yorkie in the bag with me. she loves it, stretches out, and snores away. Two things. I understand how making coffee a certain way is a joy. I’ve been making coffee for my wife and I using the cowboy coffee method for quite a long time just because I enjoy it and she says it’s better that way. I can’t thank Connie enough for the steam baked bread recipe! I’ve made it on every camping trip I’ve gone on since that video was posted! It’s great and easy to make. Also packs well.

Great idea with those water bottles and a sock. I never thought of doing that. I'm still impressed with that stove you made. None of those sheet metal stoves are very airtight, and yours looks as good as any I've ever bought. I've had several. The folding ones don't fold up for very long. The hinges quit working and bend....then they are really drafty!

Par boiling eggs and waxing them was the old way it was done. My Dad used to cut blocks of ice and bury them in sawdust from the mills around the homestead. I do the hot water bottle at the foot of the sleeping bag with a white plastic nalgene. 20+ years of boiling water in it, and still no leaks. I always put one of those emergency foil blankets under the sleeping pad as well kinda loosely wrapped. Love the video, your skills always add a lot to the toolbox!

Great outing in the hot tent, wonderful DIY project! I turn my hard cooler into a warmer when cold camping. I put boiling water in two small stainless bottles and put them in wool socks, then place them in the warmer. I do this at night and in the morning, never had frozen stuff yet and it works great for keeping batteries warm as well. I don't like stuffing everything in my sleeping bag to keep it warm, especially at night, so really enjoy the warmer. Thanks for sharing! :) :)

I'm in the process of gathering the materials for a camp stove.i found a small drum in the dumpster at work .it about the diameter of a 30 gal.drum but only about 14" tall. And also found a discarded 6"x 8" electrical box with a hinged door .I'm going to insert and weld into the side of the drum..I think it will work fine..iv not quite worked out how to add a rounded shelf on the side I see thanks to you how necessary the shelf is to a stove..thanks again . You lit a fire back in me to get back out to deer camp...

Hello! Connie, that steam bakes bread sounds a bit like the Babbat my mom used to make with roasted chicken. it's a sweet steamed bread with raisins in it, we would put into small bowls, similar to ramekins and steam it in the roaster with the chicken. It was so good!

Been watching your youtube content. So far I made 3 paper model tents with 12"x16" paper sheets. I did that so I don't get confused when I get tarp and tape on the grass.
