Phthalimide : Organic synthesis

Hello friends ,
In this video we make phthalimide using phthalic anhydride and urea.
simple procedure by heating them together
Phthalimide is an amide derivative of phthalic anhydride
Materials required for synthesis
- Phthalic anhydride 10g
- Urea - 2g
- Ethanol - 300 ml for recrystallisation
I am planning to use this for preparation of anthranilic acid
Gabriel phthalimide reaction for synthesis of primary amines
be safe in home during this pandemic season and try to watch all my videos.

Make methyl anthranilate! It's the flavoring in grape kool aid. I believe you need sodium hypochlorite and sodium hydroxide to form the anthranilic acid. Not sure though I'm rusty on this one. Then you perform an esterification using methanol which yields methyl anthranilate!
