That was his initial reaction directly after his brother lost to a Thai fighter... in the first American match between the two styles of Kick Boxing and Muay Thai. He then decided to go over there and learn it. Became a champion. Context

I'm a lefty but when I started training in Martial arts everything I learned was right handed. Then I started training in Muay Thai everything my instructor taught me was left handed because I told him that I am a lefty so as far as thai boxing I'm a lefty and in everything else I'm ambidextrous.
@X-21369 жыл бұрын
It's just a comment why would it matter that much to you.
@X-21369 жыл бұрын
In this clip Duke says that he knows a lot about lefties and how to use what he's teaching if a person is a lefty. Towards the end of the clip

Benjamin Jonathan I believe many schools emphasize training right handed. Why? I don't know, because it's easier, or because most of us are right handed. It would be ignorant to not work on your weaknesses. In an odd way I'm guessing that all worked out for you. You are better either way aren't you. I love what I'm seeing here. I'm 53 and happy to say I'm a new student all over again. BJ Penn once told me "Never give up" thanks to Duke Roufus, and programs like this, I never will.

That's awesome that you work with Duke Rufus. I am actually planning on going to Rufusport for the fitness program this Summer just to lose weight. I already have a martial arts school to that I love going to.

Benjamin Jonathan nice there's been alot of successful southpaws lately.. I don't know why you should train orthodox when your lefty.. it's a bigger advantage being a southpaw.

I don't know much, but the jab order for the first two kick combos seem wrong. He does a left-right-rightkick combo, which would involve a recoil before engaging the right leg. Shouldn't the order be similar to that in boxing, as in left-right-left or vice-versa?
@AtomicKinetic129 жыл бұрын
Akash Goel The left right RIGHT is a hidden attack. It is meant to sneak the right kick in since, as you said yourself, most fighters are expecting the back and forth side to side attack. You need to remember to break your rhythm from time to time in order to catch your opponent off guard. The left right RIGHT is very effective when done after you've already established the left right LEFT. You also don't need to recoil for the last right kick. You can flow through from your right punch right into the kick.

Got it, thanks.

Akash Goel if you dont know much than how would you know whether a world champion fighter is wrong about the techniques there teaching?

anybody else feel this is kinda simple stuff for a high level striking coach :(
@treroney47208 жыл бұрын
Duke doesn't specialize in teaching anything unorthodox or mind-blowing, more so just being incredibly fundamentally sound like Niecky Holzken or Joseph Valtilini. I think Duane Ludwig is more your speed my friend. ☺

GlassMetropolis Could be, but more likely it's just a bunch of ego cases. Some fighters hate it when they're told something they do sucks.

That middle kick Duke is throwing is way way wrong. He is to close to his opponent and the the kick he is throwing is coming upward into the elbow instead across the forearm or body shoving his opponents elbow into his own rib cage. The knee strike is was a horrible demonstration. He does touch on techniques that are good, but he does not have a full understanding of it yet. There is a science to it and he's just now trying to figure it out, but has a long ways to go.

Did you just say that a former world kickboxing champion doesn't know what he's doing? You do know that one of his students is Anthony Pettis the lightweight UFC champion. Trust me Duke knows more that we will ever know but I'm sure due to his age and years of fighting he doesn't look perfect throwing kicks these days
@Wick4109 жыл бұрын
He by the way was known for being unathletic and beating people with technique so I'm just saying bro
