I used to do similar, not as good of course & really need to get back into it. I have gone through a Hell of a lot of turmoil & injuries especially recently but have found that certain exercises help. Unfortunately, iit seems I along w/ my body, spirit & mind need to be retained. 1 of the only things that I had to aid in overcoming such bullcrap seems to also been stolen from me. So you you offer lessons please lmk.

Very nicely shot John! Best video I found on KZbin. I'm going to make one for a local fire poi artist. Do you have any advice? I'm thinking safety, keeping gear intact, white balance, exposure. Seems like a challenge for sure, very cool. edit: Watched it again haha. What focal length did you use to keep a safe distance? Looks like you shot everything of off a tripod, was that abecause hand held was no option because of the focal length?

Sorry if its already been asked but do you know what they are using to make the "spark" effect? Used to dance the beaches of Ko Tao in thailand and miss that life!
@JohnJamesiii5 жыл бұрын
I believe they used actual fireworks, if you're referring to the dragon staff. For other spark/drip, they used drenched poi's and higher velocity spin.

Hi Kurniyadi, The fire sword is called a staff. It's basically a regular staff with fire on both ends. The staff with the fire balls on the ends is called the dragon staff. @@JohnJamesiii As long as you keep moving, fire does very little damage. It is the same as running your hand over flames or quickly adding logs to the wood stove. When we were kids, whenever their was a bonfire or stubble was being burnt, we always had to wear our denim shorts and roll them up to prevent the frays from catching alight. The real danger and the time when people get seriously burnt is when clothing catches alight. We never wore anything synthetic that would melt and stick to our skin, the rule was denim and REAL leather for everything, including shoes and gloves. These days I cringe when I see so many people wearing polyester shirts and shorts at a barbecue. They cause people life threatening burns and horrendous scars every year, since they burn at twice the temperature of cotton and stick to skin like treacle if they catch alight, making it almost impossible to rip the item off.
