Jan, thank you for making this video which will be useful for those who have not yet visited this area. I think you captured the scenery and the atmosphere very well, but I was disappointed to see the answer you gave to one of the comments below which talked about the ladyboy incident. You must have thought more about Patong after you made the video, because you feel now that you would never recommend it to others because you think it is a "terrible place". I think you might change your mind on reflection, although I do understand your reaction. I am an older guy than you, and I have been travelling to Thailand, including Patong, since 1989. In those days it was a very different place, of course! It was quieter with less traffic and tourists, and generally it had a more friendly and intimate atmosphere compared to today. As it happens, I just returned a few days ago from a visit to Thailand, including spending last week in Patong. Whilst I agree that Patong has its downsides, there are still many "plus" features which newcomers or indeed seasoned travellers would enjoy about the town. It is set in beautiful surroundings, notably the beach area of course, and there are interesting places to visit. Perhaps as we get older, the nightlife scene is not quite as entertaining as we remember it in our more youthful days, but nevertheless for those who enjoy this side of life, I am sure they would not be disappointed these days! Throughout my three-week stay in the country, we had beautiful sunny weather every day, with no exception, so that was wonderful. One notable downside is the increase in prices in nearly every aspect of life there, including the fun game of bartering with the local market traders. They are not so willing to play this game any more! Also, taxis and tuk-tuks have imposed fixed prices for certain trips outside town, and we found that these cannot normally be negotiated. Taxi and tuk-tuk drivers constantly badger you on the side of the street for business while you are walking around, which can be extremely irritating day after day. Overall, I would say that Phuket and Patong are certainly worth visiting. The vibe and the local people in general are very pleasing, and you are bound to have a fun time there, whatever you decide to do. Can I make one final observation, Jan? Your spoken English is perfect and very accomplished, so I hesitate to make any comment on this topic! But two local words are generally pronounced a little bit differently... Phuket is "Poo-ket", with equal emphasis on both syllables. Also the local currency Baht is pronounced more like "Baart" rather than bat! I hope you don't mind!! But thank you for putting up this video which I know many people will appreciate. And please do enjoy the rest of your travels!

Hi williamlynd904. Thanks for your post on my video from Pating in Phuket. First, this is my first impression because I have never been to Phuket or Patong before. I have visited Thailand for the last 10 years, I have lived and worked in Pattaya and Bangkok for 2,5 years. But, I have to tell you the reason to make KZbin videos in Thailand. Back in 2015, I got sick when I lived and worked in Thailand. I had a Cerebral Hemorrhage / Stroke and almost died. Thanks to the doctors in Bangkok Pattaya Hospital, I survived. Today I have a lot of challenges that I as time goes by am getting used to. You can see my video about that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rpmafpx_rdGfr80. I have been visiting Thailand and the area I used to live and work in many times after that, and this is the reason I chose to make my KZbin channel, to use it as a rehabilitation tool. When I got out of the hospital I had no language, and I had to start all over again. So that is why I can have difficulty remembering what I have to say in my videos and at the same time pronouncing the words right. Even though I know how to say the words the right way ;-). I guess if you visit Denmark where I am from, you would have difficulties pronouncing the Danish words also ;-). Regarding my first impression of Patong and Phuket, I still think Patong is overcrowded and too touristy for me, but that is only my opinion ;-). Believe me, I know how Pattaya and all the other tourist places are in Thailand. My favorite time to visit Thailand is the low season. Especially when I have lived in Thailand for 2,5 years I have tried all the seasons there. But next time I visit Phuket I will try other places and I will not visit Patong again. It is too touristy for me. I know Pattaya also can be very touristy, but I know all the quiet places in Hua Hin, Koh Chang, Bangkok, etc. that I have visited before and learned where to go. Anyway, thanks for your input, and I wish you a good day ;-).

@@jantravelthailand - Thank you so much for giving me the background information, and I understand your situation more now. I didn't say this in my original comment, but my reason for visiting Thailand again this year was to try to establish whether or not I could consider moving there permanently. I visited four cities/towns and concluded that Thailand has become much more expensive in the last three or four years, and therefore regrettably it is no longer desirable from my point of view.. But that is only my personal opinion based on my ongoing private circumstances. Thank you for providing such a good resource with your channel, Jan, and for giving me the opportunity to see alternative points of view. You produce excellent quality material, and your channel deserves to grow.

@@mtm4a You are welcome ;-). Yes, it has been more expensive to live in Thailand as an ex-pat, but it is still very cheap compared to other places in the western world. I think the biggest expense is health Insurance because it is a very important thing to have in order to be sure if you get a health problem. Thailand has some of the best private hospitals in the world. Thanks for your kind words about my channel ;-).

I would have gone to the Tourist Police after that incident with the Ladyboy.

Well, i dont Think the tourist police could have done anything for me. I would only have more trouble out of that because privacy thins and filming etc. that is why I did not do more about that case. I can only warn others about going to Patong. And I will never recommend others to go there. I think it is a terrible place 🤷‍♂️

What exactly did you mean by "Whip"? Did they use an actual "Whip" to hit you?
@jantravelthailand
@jantravelthailand Жыл бұрын
They used some kind of a stick/whip to hit me and II had a big red mark across my back for about 1 day. But doesn't matter what it exactly was, because it hurt like h.... and they should NOT do that to anyone. Especially not tourists.
