Very well said and thoroughly written in only true things. Few have the gift to convey weighty topics in such succinct clarity (this one least of all!), or the much appreciated abstinence from superfluous noise & visuals.

In reading today's Gospel, I realized that I have read it without ever understanding what phylacteries were (or the meaning of the tassels). Thank you for your explanation and, even more importantly, for the purpose/meaning of how we are to live and how it goes beyond symbols. 🙏🙏🙏

Did Jesus wear a phylactory? Can you wear one while working as a carpenter?
@messagesofChrist Жыл бұрын
It does not say he did, but he never condemns wearing one, only making them large to be seen by men, so likely he did. Today they only wear them during prayer, so that is likely the same for the time of Jesus.

Well presented information thank you. Unless I'm mistaken, your script borrows from Alonzo Gaskill's work "The lost language of symbolism" on page 39. I think it would be good if you gave him credit in the comments or somewhere.
@messagesofChrist2 жыл бұрын
All my videos have the full text of the script in the link in the description, which always has footnotes to any source I might use or if I quote someone. It probably would have been good to put a note in the video, but KZbin does not allow you to change. But as I mentioned, it is in the transcript.

But why do they choose to wrap the Saturn Finger, the Middle finger, and not any other finger?...
@messagesofChrist2 жыл бұрын
The middle finger is the longest, so it symbolizes that the law, being bound to the arm, becoming part of the person, then emanates from the person, and out through heir actions, represented by the longest finger.

In case you ever want to talk to a jew about tefillin, No jew calls them phylacteries, probably not even the King of Kings :) I see it in in KJV, As far as I know, PHY etc is some kind of Greek word for amulet.. BTW the tefillin contains words form the old testament, Torah.. I used to have a Hebrew holy scriptures translated into English, it would be cool to see the word used .. maybe it is tefillin :) God bless, Y'all!

99.99 percent of Christianity does not follow the Torah. How can you be surprised about this?
@TayloringSwiftly4 жыл бұрын
The OT and NT says God will write the laws on men’s heart and give them His spirit to keep those laws. Those external traditions were only a foreshadowing of what God would do (have done) in the new covenant (Jer.31:33, Heb.10:16, Ez.11:19). Jesus went further to chastise the Pharisees for making their phylacteries very long to be a display to men and not to God (Matt.23.5). While I’m not bashing the outward adornment of religious garbs etc. it isn’t necessary if you’re fulfilling the law from an inward disposition.
