With gastropods covered, let's move to our next class within phylum Mollusca, the bivalves. These include clams, oysters, mussels, scallops, and shipworms. What are these organisms all about? What can we say about bivalve aquaculture? And those pearls that certain species create? Let's find out!

My 6 year old enjoyed this, even though much of the technical language went over her head, she still got the gist.

I love that we're putting mussels to work, that's so funny to me. Look at it! 3:14 It looks like it's wearing a silly hat, but that's just its work uniform, lol.

This was one of the most fascinating in your series Dave. I had no idea that they had sensate organs like eyes. Makes me want to listen to that Ween album again.

Have you ever heard of IMbeggar? He’s a catholic that in my opinion makes really good videos. There’s this one video titled “do god and science contradict each other?” And I was wondering if you can do one of those reaction-style videos like you did with iamlucid on it. It has some very challenging questions and I was hoping you’d help answer them maybe

When you say "raised humanely"....what does that mean when referring to a non-sentient animal? At least I was under the impression that bivalves were not sentient. I would have thought the term 'humanely raised' is reserved for animals who can suffer/feel pain to some degree.

Yeah, I’m interested in that too. My guess is that already being adapted to living in the confines of a shell and having only a rudimentary nervous system makes them difficult to abuse. I’m trying to eat less meat but I actually wouldn’t mind only eating bivalves.

Yeah agreed. Perhaps he’s using the word humane because he’s agnostic about their potential for subjective experience? Personally I don’t think we have any reason to believe bivalves are sentient
