Phylum Priapulida: The Penis Worms

Continuing through Ecdysozoa, we will now wrap up clade Scalidophora by examining phylum Priapulida. These are also known as the penis worms, and for good reason, given their distinct morphology. These range quite a bit in size despite only consisting of 22 species, and they are often confused for organisms in other phyla, so let's get a better understanding of them now!

I can't help but imagine what it was like way back when that group of scientists first examined this thing - a thick, 15cm long worm with all these spikes & hooks on one end - & one immediately said, _"Hey, this thing looks just like my tallywacker, so why don't we call them Priapulids?"_ He'd have gotten quite a lot of side eye from his colleagues.
