I transferred services into the Army and they sent me to my graduate program. I taught nursing for 6 years. You did an excellent assessment. Your bedside manner is great. What surprises me is how thorough he is with it. I just had my yearly physical 3 weeks ago by my long time doctor. He looked in my ears, listened to my heart and lungs, palpated my stomach and lymph nodes in my neck and that was about it. Also blood and urine tests. Granted, I have health issues and specialists that treat some of the other things, but I don't think I've had THIS level of a comprehensive physical in 25 years!

Great job! I am not a medical professional; so this is more of an observation/question. When i was a child, i remember the doctor explaining to me about the Hernia test and what he was looking for. and also since i am not cut; he explained how important it was to "flip the tip and clean the skin with soap and water"; the importance of that was to prevent a UTI. but now i remember that you are not i n a hospital setting; so you did the right thing.

Mind you, I also think you missed out doing the reflexes of the foot (pointed object along the sole of the foot) and on the knees (tapping using a small hammer), but that's between you and me!!! I am very impressed with your knowledge of the anatomy. No Doctor I have ever been to has ever stated anything about S1 & S2's, where the positioning of the lungs and heart were. All they ever did was stick a stethoscope here and there and said ok!!!

Listening to the heart and lungs through the shirt is no big deal. There really is no audible difference. My doctor listens to mine over my shirt because I don’t like taking my shirt off. Doctors and nurses and trained to do both because it’s up to patient on whether they want to undress and they DO deal with patients who don’t want to do that. Having a physical is VERY invasive because you have to deal with being touched everywhere and sometimes the one thing that the patient has control over is whether they undress or not. Boys and men don’t often care about removing their shirt, but some do. Women definitely do.
