Yeah he is right as a new type of acid is formed called lactic acid after fermentation and if it would have been a physical change it would be impossible to form a new material

a new substance, lactic acid, is formed from the lactose in milk. The curd has different properties and a different flavour than the milk, and the change is permanent. Once the curd is formed, you can't extract milk from it. :) IT IS CHEMICAL CHANGE
