Checking out the state of physical media- movies, CDs etc., in Japanese stores

Seeing the thriving physical media in Japan, and then over here I walk onto a target and there's a tiny section of a few Blu Ray's and maybe a couple 4k's. Sad day.
@Buzz-Mcfly15 күн бұрын
Man, even Target has ditched physical media in stores altogether (at least my local one has). Barnes & Noble and, oddly enough, Fred Meyer (if you live in the PNW) are pretty much the only stores left at this point. Sad day indeed

Walmart is THE place to get Physical media now. Especially 4k steel books. Its honestly super smart business strat on their end. They saw everyone else ditch physical media, & Walmart said "Thanks for handing us this easy win. Now we are the only ones who sell Physical & now cornered the market."
@plasmablack14 күн бұрын
@@sumguy3687 erm, gonna need a source for that walmart quote. 🤓

I went to get some things from Walmart after not shopping there for a while. And I was shocked to see their movie section. Not only do they have the giant round bargain bins. They have a good selection of tv seasons and anime too. I was like, "when did Afro Samurai get released on blu ray?"
@pistachiodisguisey9112 күн бұрын
@@plasmablack when i went that had tons of complete boxed sets of really good shows

I cant stop thinking about how wide and powerful your stance was in that shot with kojima
@enshk7914 күн бұрын
Hahahah I love it!!!! That power stance is something else.
@JeremyCoolDude14 күн бұрын
Rocco's got a whole inventory of things that are "wide and powerful" that he doesn't actively advertise as much...
@TheRealBobbyMC14 күн бұрын
He’d been practicing all day wearing that suit for whatever role he’s playing. Must of felt like a god. Rocco may now be just 2 degrees of separation from Conan O’Brien.

Love that Yodobashi location. For CD's go one station over in Ochanomizu (it's walking distance), loads of great CD & record shops there.

It’s a good day when there’s a new 15 minute personal channel vid

I’m amazed that Rocco isn’t a laserdisc guy. It seems to have been hugely popular in Japan and the amount of JP only releases of anime, or even just otherwise western properties, is astounding. It seems like a very Botte-coded format.

1:20 as someone who also has an unhealthy love (but not obsession) for Japan's trains and public transportation system, I'd kill for that Yamanote Line blu-ray.

I love these videos so much. This store seems absolutely mesmerizing!

No joke, walking into the toy department in Yodobashi Camera's Akihabara location was the closest to the feeling of walking into Toys 'R' US at age six in my adult life.

Blockbuster memories are a trip. The cover of every new release that came out while I worked there is etched forever to my brain.

When I saw Death Stranding on the Xbox store, I thought about your power stance in Xbox gear at Nintendo World and then I thought about your power stance next to Kojima. Your power knows no bounds. Influence Without Limits.

I love physical media-cd’s, blu-rays, dvds. I have a fairly substantial Perfume collection that I can’t get enough of.

Things like food in Japan are very inexpensive compared to cities in the US. The tradeoff is their salaries generally aren't as high
@vince356014 күн бұрын
Please continue these videos, they bring me back to going through those stores, there's just too much to see, always getting lost in the different sections. But it was so cool to see all they had, especially compared to out here in Canada.

Went to Japan in May. It was so cool seeing SO much physical media. Tower Records impressed me so much!

An 8 story department building with a jingle that plays three different versions every 5 minutes. You can spend a day there and hear that jingle a few hundred times. I love the store, but the song sets of my fight or flight reflex. 10/10.

I miss this. Everything is so empty and bland in stores over here in the US, anything related to hobbies is contained to a tiny shelf in a corner of the store if it's even there at all these days. Digital, digital, digital.

Yeah, the BotW and TotK soundtracks are super chill yet jovial. The composers are super knowledgeable, yet make the music still accessible for those that just also want to relax. I also listened to them on a couple big trips. Some tracks were so inspiring, I made arrangements for some of my students to enjoy!

The other day I thought "I'd like to go to the store that has physical media, I just want to see some physical copies of videogames again", and once I was there I found out the shop had closed down. It was a bit of a shock since it was the only store left that sold them, and I always expected there would be at least one store left selling physical copies of new games.
anybody gives you guff just show em your picture with Kojima, you're a national ambassador

Having gone to Japan for the first time this past Summer, shopping in person is the absolute BEST in Japan. Stores are PACKED with clean, orderly and fully stocked shelves. Stores and malls are packed all the time, especially weekends. American stores just don’t compare.
@CasualVitality14 күн бұрын
I think you made an editorial decision to not include the wall of "Still Waiting" physical media that is present at most of these stores throughout Japan. Please do not continue this line of disinformation going forward, thank you.
