To be eligible for Canadian citizenship, you must have been physically present in Canada for at least 1,095 days in the five years immediately before the date of your application.
The physical presence calculator is for permanent residents applying for grant citizenship as adults.
You can use the calculator to find out if you have been physically present in Canada long enough to be eligible for citizenship. If you have, the calculator will tell you that you are eligible to apply. If you have not, it will tell you when you will be eligible to apply.
This online calculator is the preferred method to calculate your physical presence in Canada.

This videoshows a step by step process on how to complete the Physical Presence Calculation. Once the calculation is completed, you can print and mail it with your Canadian citizenship application on paper. If you are applying the citizenship online, you can save the calculation as PDF file and upload it to your online application.

Thank you for the walkthrough! It is really clear! I have a question that is not covered in the video. What if I am I have temporary status in Canada before I became a PR? e.g. the period waiting for my PWGP when I graduated from university and started to work? It was the in-between time when I was working and submitted my application for PGWP, but has not received my actual work permit. In this case, should I input my status as a temporary worker? Thank you so much!

If your study permit was not expired, you can put student, otherwise put worker.

Question regarding the physical presence calculation. I held student permit from jan 21 2019 till March 31 2020 and post grad work permit from April 3 2020 till April 3 2021. But I applied for refugee claim on Feb 19 2020 and got approved as protected person on Feb 5 2021. How to calculate the overlapping days of wait period and workpermit. While filling the online application do I have to include all or exclude the permits after refugee claim

If I came to Canada as PR in 2020 and never left, how do I answer the questions about having left Canada in the last 5 years? I was in my home country before that and falls within the last 5 years.

What if I moved to Canada only in 2018 and was in my home country earlier. I did not leave canada from the day I arrived in Canada and have been here since 2018. Do I need to mentioned that I was in my home country in 2017(as it checks last 5 years) if yes what do I fill in the date section: when did I leave Canada ?
@ImmigrationCanada-allied
@ImmigrationCanada-allied 2 жыл бұрын
You need to provide your employment, education and address history for the last 5 years, which also includes the time before you came to Canada, if you came here less than 5 years. But you don't need to calculate the days before you came for absence calculation.

NO. It counts as an absence. Even if you go and come back the same day!

@@higado2 if you leave and come back the same day... Than that day is counted as day in Canada. It does count. However if you leave and come back after 5 days than the day u left and the day entered are counted days in Canada, the rest are counted out.

I have an issue with the application,just after I put the date and the date I become PR when I click calculate the next page is asking this question “Did you have Canadian temporary resident status (i.e. as a visitor, international student, temporary worker, temporary resident permit holder), and/or were a protected person) between 2017-02-03 and 2018-03-16?.it’s not giving me “did you spend serving a sentence……..”why it’s not the same as you are showing? Thanks

Hi, what if somebody don't remember the dates for entry and exit, and travelled a lot, is there any other solutions they can calculate if we gave them authorization to the ircc? But online for does not show any option of authorization? Please reply
@ImmigrationCanada-allied
@ImmigrationCanada-allied 2 жыл бұрын
You still need to do the calculation yourself even if you give them authorization to check your travel history. You can check the stamps on your passport, or get your Travel History Report from Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

Hi, what happens if I am outside Canada but meet the requirements. Can I send my application from abroad or does it need to be mailed within Canada? How do I Iist my current absence in the physical calculator as I am not on Canadian soil to put a return date? Thanks!
@ImmigrationCanada-allied
@ImmigrationCanada-allied 7 ай бұрын
Yes you can. You don't need to put a return date. Just put the date you submit your application to indicate that you are still absent when you submit the application.
