In this video I provide a demo of 4 physical sunscreen products that I own as well as reveal my thoughts about each product. I hope this video will help those with a darker complexion find a physical sunscreen that either does not leave us looking casket ready (LOL) or, at the most, leaves behind a very minimal cast.
I also mention which out of the four physical sunscreens I believe would work best for those with oily skin.
Are these physical sunscreens for dark skin (i.e. physical sunscreen without white cast)? Are these physical sunscreens for oily skin (i.e. non-greasy physical sunscreen)? Let me know our thoughts in the comment section down below. Enjoy the video!

Excellent video! I’m brown with combo skin and tried it cosmetics cc cream, so streaky and even through the tint I could see a grey tint on my face, I think the last one looked the best on you! I’m curious as to if it made you oily later in the day?? I rarely use dewy stuff cuz an hour later just my t zone will get slick, let me know!!!

Thank you! I really liked the last one as well. As a matter of fact, it has become my go to physical spf. It does NOT make me oily at all. In my experience, the dewy effect you see initially after applying this particular spf goes away. I don't notice it after a while. I hope that helps! If you do decide to try it out, let me know how it goes. tfw :-)

You're welcome! I've been wanting to do a sunscreen video for a while now, but one that talks about both physical and chemical sunscreens. So, thank you for getting the ball rolling ;-) Honestly, I like the last 3 sunscreens with the one by Dr. Dennis Gross being my favorite since there was absolutely NO cast left behind and I really liked the finish. With that said, the ones by Etude House and Coola definitely left a matte finish which is a huge plus of oily skin. I don't think the finish on the one by Dr. Dennis Gross (once it dries/sets) is a bad option either depending on how oily your skin is. Glad I can be of some help! @MellyMelTheMuse
@MellyMelTheMuse 5 жыл бұрын
Well, the last one by Dr. Dennis Gross is #1. The Sunprise Airy Finish does leave a very slight cast, but I find it to be doable. Nowadays, I use the Sunprise Airy Finish moreso for the body since I've got other options now for the face that don't leave a white cast at all. Sunprise Airy Finish would be ranked #2 out of the 4 products in this video, IMHO.

@@pamo3030 I came in to say so far I love this sunscreen! Absolutely NO WHITE CAST, no break outs, doesn't burn the eyes and makeup goes on great! The real test will be if it has the protection I need to keep my hyperpigmentation from getting darker. Also, there are times when I spray it, it doesn't come out well, I did see a few reviews where that was a problem. Other than that, I give this sunscreen a 10. @@MellyMelTheMuse Oh ok. I also heard of a mineral sunscreen (as it's supposed to be safe for coral reefs if you're going to the beach) called Unsun Cosmetics Mineral Tinted Face Sunscreen Lotion that was created by a black woman. I have this sunscreen and while it doesn't leave a cast (it has a light brown tint), the size (1.7 oz) for $15 is to be desired. I guess it's because the product is supposed to be used only for the face (possibly)

I prefer physical sunscreens mainly because they work by reflecting the sun's rays versus chemical sunscreens work by absorbing the sun's rays and converting it into something else. Also, there's information from studies that certain chemical sunscreens are potentially harmful to us. So, until there's more evidence that they are completely safe to use, I rather avoid them if I can.

MAC did one spf 50 which for me who is as oily as all get-out, worked so well. When I tell you it kept me oil free all day. It kept me oil free all day, then they changed the formula......epic fail! All MAC customers complained in their droves, but MAC stood firm. Shame really!

Be sure to find the ranking of your sunscreen using this helpful site: www.ewg.org/sunscreen/ Sunscreens are not all created equal. I give the SS with low percentages of active ingredients the side eye.

This was a great demo. It’s sooo hard to find a good mineral sunscreen especially when you don’t want to put makeup over it. I have medium white skin and STILL look like Casper in most of them. It’s ridiculous. I’m sorry the drunk elephant didn’t work out cause I agree the consistency is really nice. It does work well with olive tone white skin but it’s pricey.

FYI: Dark skin doesn’t require the same SPF as fairer- skin. Dark skin have a natural SPF 16 UV protection, although dark skin blocks vitamin D3 production even more. So darker-skinned people require 10 to 20 times the sun exposure length (which equates to about two hours of exposure) than lighter-skinned people to build up the same amount of vitamin D. So, if you’re dark skin and you’re using sunscreen not SUNBLOCK, use a sunscreen with no more than 30 SPF for the body and 15 SPF for the face (daily) so to NOT DISRUPT dark skin’s ability to ABSORB VITAMIN D. THE FAIRER YOUR SKIN THE HIGHER SPF PROTECTION YOU NEED.

You rub too much to get the full spf rating on the label. You need an even layer all over. I can make a lot of unusable sunscreens work by applying that little and blending that much. It still was helpful though.

@@MellyMelTheMuse You rubbed in the sunscreen a lot to thin it out imho. If you thin it out that much you dont get the protection, aka spf rating, that it advertises on the label. It will look less white and less streaky, but it wont be protecting you. That's what I mean.

Thank you for your positive comment and for your feedback! I've noticed as I've gotten older, that I speak slower. I find that people understand me much better when I do. I tend to slur or fumble over my words when I get really excited and/or speak really quickly. In some instances, bits of a Jamaican accent mixed with some southern twang comes out and it's an absolute mess, hahaha. Very few people can clearly understand what I'm saying at that point (LOL). I even went to speech classes as a child because of it. Hahaha, it's something I've been working on. I find speaking slower to be easier and less frustrating for me. I'm thankful that YT allows folks to increase the playback speed. I've used it a couple of times as well :-)
