Are you experiencing pain or tenderness of your jaw, aching pain in and around your ear, difficulty chewing or pain while chewing, aching facial pain, or difficulty moving the jaw joint and the surrounding muscles? If any of these symptoms sound familiar, you may have Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction (TMD). The good news is that physical therapy can help treat TMD for good!
The temporomandibular joint acts like a sliding hinge, connecting your jawbone to your skull. Dysfunction can lead to the symptoms listed above, and can cause pain, headaches and difficulties that greatly decrease your quality of life.
In this video, Rebecca Petrosino, Partner & Director at PTSMC Fairfield, talks about how physical therapy can help treat TMD and demonstrates a number of ways PTs may approach treatment, including manual manipulation of the joint and muscles and even dry needling of the affected joint and muscles.
Treatment for TMD is offered in our clinics in Fairfield, Orange and Waterbury, Connecticut. Learn more about PTSMC clinics here: ptsmc.com/locations/

I'm curious why the therapist is using gloves that's been on the bed and head inside the mouth and used again from mouth to hair? I am concerned about the hygiene aspect of treatment i.e. germs being taken from different areas of body into other parts of body?

OK so I'm quite nervous that my tmj could get worse or something. I'm just 17 years old I have this popping noise as long I could remember but just recently (8th july) I had a much louder noise at my jaw and pain was pulsating and it just comes and go. I've checked it out with the doctors and she said I may have chances of getting jaw locked and that freaked me out. Also she said surgery will help too. So I came across this video and I really hope it takes off the popping noise and the pain

you need to go see a dentist or a specialist for TMD. they might make you wear mouth guard. avoid grinding at day, chewing gum, bad habits with your jaw. surgery is the last thing to do.

@@Dhana77728 I have the same problem. I visited a specialist for TMJ (ATM) and was recommended to do physiotherapy for my jaw. The expert also said not to chew hard food and never to chew gum again. There is also the avoidance of sticky foods such as caramel so that your jaw does not lock. I’ve had this problem for a year now, and I regret not going earlier

A family doctor is not the one to see for TMJD unless you need a referral to a specialist who does. A family md has no business even mentioning surgery for you at 17, there are many ways to go, surgery is the last resort. At 17 you likely haven't had the stress the world deals where most practitioners will accuse you of causing your own problems by being stressed out and angry, always clenching your jaw, so my guess is poor dental work where your bite needs to be corrected. Dentists don't like to admit that their work is more of an art than a science but really, putting a piece of paper to tap down on and asking if your bite feels OK after dental work (when your mouth is frozen) is purely subjective and can't possibly be accurate. The invention of a T-Scan to measure for an accurate bite is promising.

You need to see TMJ/TMD specialist. The treatment that works are DTR therapy or wearing teeth orthotics. This will fix facial asymmetry, pain, vertigo, body posture, crooked smile, overgrown jaw muscles and other issues arising from TMJ/TMD including jaw lock/pop Good Luck
