Most people that have mental disabilities are very smart. They have a hard time communicating their thoughts so people think they are stupid. If you are patient enough with them you can help them find a way to communicate efficiently. People with physical disabilities are usually assumed stupid, or people think that we should be able to do everything to survive but do it using a wheelchair or crutches. Some of us do better than basic survival only because we didn't give up on anything.

Probably no one is going to read this, but I'm gonna say it anyway. I have a mental disability as much as I dislike calling it that (it's ADHD) and I always felt that people with physical disabilities (or at least noticeable disabilities) got more attention. I mean when you see someone in a wheelchair your first reaction is probably not to call them lazy, you are probably going to assume that they are in that wheelchair for a reason, but when you see a kid falling behind on their homework despite passing all their tests with flying colors the story changes, now you're more likely to blame the kid, their teacher might say to them "I can see that your clearly capable of doing this work so why aren't you doing it?" People might think the kid is lazy, or that they are not doing the work on purpose, they don't stop to think that maybe they can't focus no matter how hard they try because they have a disability.
