I have been looking for an easy and economical way of creating a series of a 6 minute puppet animations to use them as supplements for teaching kids, and now I see Adobe CA is making it possible. I really loved what I saw. The only thing I am concerned about is rendering time using a single but fast workstation. Did any one tried rendering puppet animation on a single computer? If so, would you share your experience regarding to rendering time and related issues you had encountered?
@okaysamurai6 жыл бұрын
I've talked about this in a couple of videos, but rendering times vary greatly depending on resolution, framerate, complexity of puppets, etc. But I've made all the videos you see here using a single computer (2016 Macbook Pro) and it's been fine for me personally.

Thanks a lot for your response. I know I was asking the impossible. What is your average rendering time, just roughly, for most of your recent tutorials? And if you can throw me a link for those videos, it will be awesome!

For the videos about optimization I'd browse adobe.com/go/chtutorials or okaysamurai.com/CHFAQ/ for relevant topics. I'd say a 12 minute complex Evan Flamethrower scene (multiple characters, backgrounds, effects) at 1920 x 1080 24fps takes a little over an hour for me to render.

One of the biggest challenges for me working in 2D is the planning and juggling of layers to prevent clipping, and even then, adding dangling physics EASILY breaks this. It's frustrating to not be able to collide dangling physics objects with other layers, or even have a simple workaround like a Handle Tool that can be tagged as collidable so it can be used as a hard boundary before intercepting with other layers, and causing overlapping issues (or being covered up). This is probably my most requested feature so far in CH, simply because it would solve a significant amount of layering issues with more detailed puppets.

So much to learn. Question: Would physics (behavior) work between two separate puppets in a scene? For example, if each puppet in the scene has been rigged for collision, would they bounce off each other? Or does physics only work within a puppet?
@okaysamurai2 жыл бұрын
I believe it is only in a puppet. Physics Playground on pages.adobe.com/character/en/puppets is a good example of how you can put a bunch of stuff in a single puppet. But if it's like two full human puppets, you may just want to fake it with keyframes or something.

How can I do to join (or attach) two levels preciciouly (without empty space in the midlle)? I saw that this happens when you apply the Tag "Collide". Thank you very much
@okaysamurai Жыл бұрын
Yes, if collide is on two objects, you probably don't want them overlapping because they would be colliding in the same space. However, you could have as many layers as you want in a group and tag that group as collide, and that should still work.

Unfortunately I don't think there's a great way to deal with this right now, as the Physics engine isn't perfectly edge to edge for the artwork. how come the droplet cant come out out of the tube when the collide checked, seems like its stuck when colliding with the tube
@okaysamurai4 жыл бұрын
I believe in that case the tube would be considered a solid mesh, and collide tries to never make meshes overlap. The chicken blaster example inside the Character Animator home screen is a good example of shooting stuff out of a (non-colliding) cannon.

Okay Samurai thanks for getting back. It's not that one, it was the same two puppets... One red and one blue in a single scene. Voices were overlapping and you split them in audition and them brought them back in to CH. The split audio only activated the armed puppet mouth shapes.. I've spent two days looking for it. Help

why I don't see any assets? in a Physics, Walking and other tutorials go to the link and see only the blank page with an Adobe logo on top. that happened with the snowman too.

All of those links should be to Adobe Creative Cloud file pages, where you should see a download icon in the upper right corner. If not, it's possible a network / country / etc is blocking it for some reason?

How to record the particles? when i tried to record it nothing happen. Thanks
@okaysamurai3 жыл бұрын
Particles is a simulation - if it is activated / triggered, it will record. To see your true recording, click the red dot off in the timeline so you're not getting any additional live data. If it persists, please post a screenshot, video, or File > Export > Puppet (.puppet file) to adobe.com/go/chfeedback for more direct help.

When i export a puppet i have rigged with physics the exported video looks distorted compared to what I am viewing before export. Anyone run into that before?
@okaysamurai4 жыл бұрын
If export looks distorted usually that's an export settings issue. Sometimes resizing things or using different quality settings can do this. But if that's not the case, please post a sample video or screenshot of what you see in the app vs. what you see in the final video to adobe.com/go/chfeedback and we can take a closer look.
@JWitty184 жыл бұрын
Okay Samurai The error was happening when I had the puppets arm already positions in the air. I started the scene earlier and had his arm move up into the end position and the export did not distort.

now I want my rain to splash on impact with my character, how do I do that?
@okaysamurai4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately you can't trigger a "splash" or anything on impact, all you can have is for something to bounce off like the umbrella in scene 3 if you tag it as Collide.

HI, I am really interested in learning from this site. I cannot seem to download the Example Project files from the link. Can anyone help please? Thanks

The link should take you to a CC file page, and there should be a download icon in the upper right corner. The ZIP file contains the project and supplemental files.

Hi, thanks and appreciate the reply. I just cannot find them anywhere. The link takes me to the Adobe page, and I am logged into my Adobe account, but there is no download button. Have tried three different browsers. I don't suppose you can send the files to me separately?

Should work - the "Chicken Blaster" example from the Home workspace should be a working example of a cannon. If you still can't figure it out please post a video or screenshot to adobe.com/go/chfeedback, might be a bug.

@@okaysamurai I know the cause of the problem. Particles do not work in groups; they must be applied to a single layer.

AN HOUR trying to figure out how to have toys fall on my head... then I re-watched this video and now fully understand the refresh scene button... I was doing it right, I just needed to press that stupid button for me to be able to see that I was doing it right...
@okaysamurai6 жыл бұрын
Some things, like physics and walking, are "simulations" - meaning they are based on a specific start time. The processing required to bake all that stuff in ahead of time could lead to slower performance, so making it realtime helps things run smoother. But anytime you reopen a scene it should refresh and restart the simulation as well.

Physics > Collision > check Bounce Off Scene Sides. Or make a floor layer and tag it as Collide, like some of the blocks we show in the example file.
