i think he meant when using v^2=u^2+2as, only consider the principal value, no need to add+/-in front of the square root.

@@lukecheung3599 If the question asks for the final speed, then yes, you only take the positive value. If the question asks for the final velocity, then you do need to insert the minus sign by hand to indicate that the object is moving downwards, \vec{v} = -v \hat{y}
