PI DAY 37 (9-20-24)

PI Day 37 (9-20-24) Got up @ 0630, had my coffee and got my walk in. Luis was already on the roof talking advantage of a few hours of sunlight. The two cans of spray seal arrived yesterday from Shoppe (Amazon Island style). Forecast was for rain beginning at 1000 and lasting all day. But on this island you never know the weather until it’s here. I returned from my walk and found a few more sari sari stores I missed yesterday. Kenneth, Ahlyn & Anelor were at the table eating breakfast. I had a spam & pandesal sandwich 🥪 with them. Luis was working two jobs. Chipping the excess cement off the driveway and working on the cement countertop. Ate and & I took on the backyard clean up. There’s a 4’ wide walkway of cement and used ceramic tiles coming out of the laundry area. It too was covered with excess cement that was just poured on the tiles. All the leftover ceramic tiles from building the house were strewn about along with miscellaneous building materials. Ate was busy making a storage space and I decided to see if the excess cement would just come off the ceramic tiles. I wish I’d taken a before picture to give you a better idea. After about 3 hours of solid work we stopped for lunch. Luis is on his own eating schedule so it was only the 3 of us having lunch as Lourdes had classes today. The fried pork in suka is amazing. We got back to work and had the finish line in sight. The far end of the walkway was covered in moss. So I commenced to scrubbing it off as I saw them doing yesterday. We sorted the tiles by style, moved and leveled the washing machine. Installed a makeshift drain for it. We then added a few loose tiles to cover the dirt in the laundry area as this would help keep a freshly laundered item from accidentally falling into the dirt. Cleaned up and organized it was now time to take the trash out. 2 old lawn chairs and some cardboard and the pile of stuff Anelor managed to sweep up. It was then the 4 kids came and grabbed the cardboard & 2 old chairs. They used it to build a fort on the corner. We chatted with them and Anelor was telling them to be sure and put the items in the trash when they’re done playing with them. At this point we were both sweeping the gutter on the curb. I decided to go get 4ea ; 50 peso bills and hand them out to my four new friends. They were so excited shouting give me my money (I guess it’s currently a popular tik Tok video in the Philippines right now) [What does the give me my money trend mean? The trend is essentially a prank in which two or more people take it in turns to sing or say the phrase “Just give me my money”, embellishing it with a funny voice, dramatic effect or melody] a few minutes later they were gone. They went to the nearest sari sari store to buy some snacks. I snapped a few photo’s of them in their fort eating their snacks oblivious to the world around them. Just kids having fun. Made my heart smile!
