Hi Tripp I would add one thing to your video. To make life easier, on both my Kawasaki and my Harley there is a connector for a wire connected to the battery that has a plug-in that I could plug directly into my optimizer charger. That way I could just let the charger cycle the battery and keep it good or I could use a quick charge or worst case scenario I could use it as a jump start. That way there's no drama of removing the seat battery compartment tools etc and so on. Hope this comment helps.

I actually included that advice when making this video but edited it out thinking it would be a good topic for a separate video. Thanks David, nice to hear from you.

@@trippontwowheels You're welcome. Looking forward to seeing that vid. also I guess you being in Texas wouldn't be the one to ask this but I was wondering since I can't really ride my bike I have a dirt road between my driveway and the paved road that's about a half a mile Right now it's covered with snow and ice. Is there a safe technique or my being unusually timid or conservatively smart? The only time I really road in inclement weather was when I was stationed in the Netherlands a long time ago. So is there anyone that does snowy weather riding on dirt roads or is it just the time to leave the bike in the garage and keep polishing? Anyway I'm about to go plug the charger into my bikes and take my own advice. Keep riding see you someday.

I'm not sure how the newer bikes' magnetos/stators function, but I know that my mechanic advised against letting a motorcycle (specifically, my Vulcan 800) idle for extended periods in an attempt to charge the battery. He said that the electrical system won't fully recharge at idle RPMs, that you'd need cruising RPMs to get it to effectively charge the battery. I also found it interesting that your battery read 12.8v. The one on my Harley reads 12.57 IIRC, which is more than enough to start the M8 114 engine.

John S John you’re right. It’s always best to actually ride the bike as opposed to letting it idle, particularly if it’s air cooled. I let this BV idle as it’s water cooled and I was too lazy to gear-up for a ride. The 12.8 volts was actually the reading of the charge in the jump starter. I probably just misspoke. Thanks for your comments. -Tripp

@@trippontwowheels My Vulcan 800 is water-cooled as well. The problem is that (as it was explained to me), the electrical system requires 2k+ RPMs in order to generate more electricity than what is needed to just run. If the 12.8v is what the jump starter battery had, what was your readout on the BV's battery? AFAIK, anything under 10.5 is bad. Thanks for clearing things up.

So how do you go about riding in the winter season? I’m fortunate enough to have a second summer with the coldest it gets out here being being fifty odd degrees Fahrenheit (that’s 10 or so Celsius for my metric using friends). But I’m curious to what other people do when they want to ride and it’s absolutely frigid outside? Thanks in advance!

Luis H I live in south Texas so winter isn’t a big problem. Summer is the killer. Wearing gear, sitting at a light over black asphalt when it’s 105 degrees out is pure hell.

Can I use a sealed lead acid battery in my 2012 Piaggio Typhoon 50 4T 4V, as long as it is 12v 9AH as specified by Piaggio support via email? Also, do you know if a YB9A-A battery is correct? I've used an ES12N94B1 from WalMart before, but I left the key on, so it died and will not recharge. It is the one where you have to fill the 6 ports with provided acid and distilled water, pain in the ass. This is why I ask if i can use a sealed lead acid, maintenance free battery. Thanks

I’m sure you can, not sure of the model number though. Call or email AF1 Racing in Austin or Scooter West in San Diego. Those would be your best bets.
