The order for the games goes like this: Drakengard 3: the origin of all the nier series/story; then comes NieR Replicant/Gestalt, the first nier game and where all the songs were created; later is NieR: Automata where they made new editions of the songs keeping the melodies and more epic, finally, the newest is NieR Replicant ver 1.22 is a remake version but with different changes it became kind of different from gestalt and made very good remasters of the original songs. You said that the voice sounds like a child. That is because Emil is originally a child in soul and mind. But is probably the character with the saddest story in the whole series. I will no say more context since you want to play the games so I will refrain from spoilers.
