Update: The piano cover is now on Spotify
open.spotify.c...
I have to say this is one of the most challenging music I tried to arrange. I haven't really started arranging piano music until this year and most of the songs are J-POP or J- ROCK? from Anime. And this piece is definitely another level. Comparing with the LiYue Battle Theme, it's much more difficult to arrange due to the repeat of the strings and melody.
Arranging Part:
I tried to bring the intensity from the original string sections. It took me 1 hours to just figure out the rhythm of the beginning which is changing between 6/8 and 7/8 (or some may just combine like 13/8). The strings accompaniment goes thru the whole piece. The melody simply repeated three times in a row with different instrumentation and different dynamic from the string to bring the contrast. It's hard to make the melody sound different on piano except using different ranges of the keys. So it comes to my idea that I would try to arrange the last time with a different style (maybe like classical music).
I decided to bring the theme of Stormterror's Lair which is one of my favourite theme from Genshin Impact OST. I rearranged it a little bit with some inner voice. It progresses and leads to the final climax where the Theme of Dvalin returns with rapid chords. I tried to do a great ending, but I can only think of this octaves done with a echo idea of the main melody haha.
The idea was simple but I think my transition aren't very satisfied. It took about few hours just to think about the 2 transitions. I think I've tried too much which I have no inspiration at all now and the currently transitions apparently still not smooth enough for me. But I couln't think of more. Brain cells dead.
Special thanks to my friend Pton who helped and suggested a lot during arranging it. Please check out our common channel @studiopurrlude as well if interested :)
Performance Part:
It's not very hard to perform it. The most difficult part is probably the beginning where the time signature keeps changing. It took me awhile to get used to the coordination as well if I tried to play exactly how the bass goes from original song. I think for the string part, more important thing is to bring the correct accent and also the rhythm which brings the intensity. So missing one or two notes from a chord (which I realised from my own recording) isn't that important.
The rest of the parts are all sth I'm quite used to so not as difficult as Liyue Battle for me to perform it.
Editing Part:
I applied the animation to make this video look better (some who aren't really interested at piano video may get interest to watch the animation and game video together). The first came in my mind is the part which Vendi was talking about Dvalin's past. Surprisedly, the video fits the music really well especially the ending where he dropped a blood tear with those octaves down. The playing part was my own weekly mission's screenshot. I was close to Adventure Level 6 but I decide to record it with Level 5 Dvalin first for this video in case I couln't get to lvl45 before friday haha.
Anyway, Hope you would all like this arrangement and video. It took me more than 2 weeks from the time I started (I gave up at the time after I figured the rhythm at beginning and went for Liyue Battle Theme). I think it's my best skill at this stage to arrange such music.
