I love this great strip pieced quilt. I love the piano key border as well and it was done so painlessly. There are so many things that you could do with the leftover strip set pieces…baby quilts, pot holders, mug rugs, etc. Thanks a bunch for the great video and free pattern. FQS is the best!

Just used this cute pattern to make another “Christmas in July” quilt. My big box of Christmas fabrics never get used so I decided to cut every bit of it into 2 1/2” strips and I’ve found more free patterns from FQS to make them. Having a blast! Thank you Kimberly.

Wow! Pretty little quilt. Good Vibrations makes a soft pretty look because the range of color and contrast is in the middle range, (no dark in the selection). I'll try this one.

NO WASTE VERSION: Cut three 10.5 squares from each strip set. Measure the length of what is remaining and divide that by 3 and that will be the width of the piano key strips you will cut. That would leave no waste. EXAMPLE: Assuming a 42 inch length of fabric after selvage removed, you'd have 10.5 left after cutting three 10.5 x 10.5 squares. Divide by 3. to determine you can get three 3.5 x 10.5 piano key sets. Therefore, you cut the piano keys at 3.5 x 10.5 each instead of 4.5 x 10.5 each. That gives you three 10.5 x 10.5 squares and three 3.5 x 10.5 piano key sets from each strip set, and you eliminate any waste of fabric. OR, you can cut four 10.5 squares each strip set and do a different border, or no border.

Right! I was like, hang on…that could be better used…knew someone would have already math’d it! Thanks!
@RonibearableАй бұрын
@@tracib.7725 I get that they want to sell fabric, that is their business. And I get that she starches the fabric. But so many of her quilts, I end up adjusting the math to make the cuts work with far less fabric. I buy MOST of my fabric from FQS, they get my money regardless, but it gets tiring to see the obvious "mathing" designed to sell more quantity of fabric.

@@Ronibearable I’m still new to quilting and I am slowly picking up on that. Makes me sad. Thank you for the heads up though!

I added up the measurements of all the pieces, came up to 30". If you didn't have huge selvages, you could get another 10 1/2" piece out of it. Plus, when she puts what's left over the prior pieces, it looks like it's the same measurement.
@fransak272311 ай бұрын
I was thinking the same thing. I’d trim the selvage very closely to try to get that extra 10 1/2” block. If all else fails you could always use the extra bits in a pieced backing.
