Piano Keys Sticking?

Wait a second here. You're trying to say that there is not enough weigh at the back of the mechanism yet completely neglect the fact that when this piano was new it could repeat notes just fine. What has changed?? This is what you should be looking at in my opinion.

Hey Jake, after getting this piano to my shop I found that there was a lot of friction and sluggish pinning in the action. After lubricating the parts several times and tightening and regulate the action, there was a drastic improvement in the repetition. Several notes continued to cause a problem, so in this case I used 1/4 round lead and drilled into the back part of the key to add a little weight for the key to return. I've seen people glue nickels, screws and jiffy key leads to add weight to the back of the key, but I perfer a cleaner more professional look.

I've got one for ya. I looking at buying a piano this weekend. The main one I want isn't too far away and priced at 500. It's an Ebony Young Chang U-107 upright console. I was going to buy it outright, until i noticed 2 of the keys weren't flush with the rest. They were perhaps a 1/4 of an inch lower than the rest of the keys. Any idea what that may be an indicator of and if it can be repaired?

Thanks for your video. Question. I've got this piano where most of the black key get sticky to the white key. Not on the side but in the front. So if I press the black it doesn't come back because it gets stuck to the white key. How can I solve this problem?

if u still have this problem, i'm wondering if perhaps the white keys got too much pressure somehow from the front and thus got pressed backwards reducing the space. Maybe u can wiggle the white keys back to normal. Odd that u got most of the black ones experiencing this. I'd also try removing the action enough to pick up all the affected keys off their pins to try to see if something was wrong with their holes or bushings. Maybe the act of re-seating them will fix the spacing. GL

How would you recommend adding weight to the keys? I've learned through my technicians' course about gluing front rail paper punchings to the end of the key for height adjustment. Would this suffice for the weight issue as well? Thanks!
