A fun arrangement of We Wish you a Merry Christmas in 4 variations, highlighting different classical music periods: Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Jazz
I wanted to learn this piece because it shows some of the differences between and characteristics of each period. It also reviews so many things I’ve learned in my first year, plus adds some new things as well.
In addition to phrasing, articulation, and dynamics, here are a just a few techniques I’d like to highlight that are included in this piece:
Review from year 1
- simple counterpoint
- Alberti bass
- bringing out the melody in the RH
- shaping the phrases and sections
- pedaling
- chords in various inversions
- scale passages
- harmonic thirds
- triplets
- 6ths
- swing rhythm
New:
- voicing in chords
-walking bass line
There are many things I would still like to improve on. It seems each time I play it I wish I would have done something differently. More volume, more expression, better pedaling, better dynamic contrast, cleaner scales, the list is endless! 😂
