I love the way you illustrate each scale with a song! I can play scales for all the modes in all the keys but turning those scales into music is not so easy. Thanks for putting so much content into one lesson. My advice to anyone trying to learn piano on KZbin is to pick a few videos that you like and keep reviewing daily or at least weekly. There's six month's worth of learning in this lesson.

Another great lesson. Well produced lessons and supporting material. I will not hesitate to transfer my annual piano subscription on renewal later this year or give Adam the equivalent in coffee donations. there's no way he can keep this standard of content without financial return. Great job

Dear Sir👑 Tutorial is on Point 🎯 Up in this Here Joint 🏡 Now I know why your piano teaching is so tuned to my ear.👂 A Minister of music came to my church with praise & worship like I've never heard before in my life! He made me fall back in love with piano. I could read music & couldn't play like him. He couldn't read & played brilliantly! He played Chord piano coupled with Jazz! 😅 It was beautiful! Thank you so much! You make learning to play like him so easy 👍 Health 🥑 Wealth 🤑 and Bliss ✨ #ladyduchess👑

Adam you've really highlighted something I struggled with for many years - that being Modes and Modal scales etc. Mainly because being traditionally-trained in Classical music, we were never taught this and almost conditioned into believing that there is only one way to play and that is with Notation. So when faced with the concept and scales outside of the major, minor, diminished and augmented scales, I would just go into panic mode and freeze. Brain fried and scrambled. Also I think it's the way Modes are taught by which I mean, you will always find that the C major scale is used and you're just told that each Mode just starts on the next note up. As C major has no black notes you just play from each successive note starting on the key note. So it's not easy applying the various Modes to different keys and this really blew my mind lol. I had to find this out myself but once I got it, it was more than a Eureka moment! Especially when I learnt the two different ways of finding the Modes for each scale. You made me smile when you talked about the different methods because I tried each of them barring the paper on keys method lol. That was a no-no and would get me rapped knuckles so memorisation was key - no pun intended or is it lol! I think it's an evolutionary process and I now use the Mixolydian has a flattened 7th and the Lydian has a sharpened 4th and so on and so on etc. Although that part of the video is a little late in coming for me to learn those elements of theory, I am so glad you put this video together as you really have reminded me of my process in finding these out for the first time and what I had learnt from my total meltdown. And how to apply that to everything else. I had become a little stuck in a rut. I really appreciate your videos and enjoy them immensely. So glad, I found you from the start of this journey. The free materials you put together is over and beyond any expectation and really helps to understand the massive amount of information you impart in such a short timeframe. Moreover I am a visual, auditory but academic learner in that order. So quite beneficial that I started learning an instrument and music lol! Also, on a personal note, Many years ago, my piano teacher who had himself studied at the Trinity College wanted me to go there but as a teenager, a long time ago, I can't remember the reason why I didn't go but I think it had to do with costs. I didn't get a scholarship so I would or my parents would have had to have found that money for me to go - so that dream was quickly expunged lol. So knowing that you lecture, teach there has a personal significance for me. After all these years, I did get to have some teaching and attend Trinity by extension lol. I know a bit of a stretch but our dreams never die and we have to find ways of fulfilling them somehow. So thank you sincerely. Long may your channel continue. Apologies for the long War and Peace-esque dissertation. Just had to say how much I loved your video and appreciate learning from you.

Another useful video... Fanx! Question: Having been more 'theoretically focused' than 'aurally focused' through the last many decades, I'm very familiar with the 'sound' of the major scale. So, if I take a random note to start on (the tonic), I can effectively 'intuit' how to play the major scale for that tonic - I can tell when a note is 'wrong' from its sound in the context of the scale. However, I am not familiar enough with the 'sound' of the other scales to DO that. Like you say, we can always look-up the notes.. but that's not training anything but memory... and we need to train our ears and understand the context of the usage of the scales... Short of listening to the scale being played a zillion times, maybe you have some ideas on how to practice familiarity with the sound of each of the scales... For me, the 'musical context' examples you played (while being in a different key to that in which you demonstrated the altered degree[s] in the major scale) obscured the 'sound' of the scale ('Sorry about that, Chief'). Maybe there's something like using the 'characteristic notes' of each scale to form an 'extended melody' (or substituted notes) of the major scale theme you suggest we find...? This has been bending my brain for a few years now 😵‍💫
