Piano Sonata, Elliott Carter, Charles Rosen, 1982 | Holland Festival Parels

In 1982 is de Amerikaanse, modernistische componist Elliott Carter eregast van het Holland Festival. Het openingsmarathonconcert is uitsluitend aan hem gewijd, zodat het publiek in één dag kennis kan maken met zijn gehele kamermuziekoeuvre. Deze clip bevat zeldzame beelden achter de schermen, waarin Elliott Carter uitwijdt over zijn werk. Legendarisch concertpianist Charles Rosen voert zijn Pianosonate uit.
In 1982, the American modernist composer Elliott Carter was guest of honour at the Holland Festival. The opening marathon concert is dedicated exclusively to him, allowing audiences to get to know his entire chamber music oeuvre in one day. This clip features rare behind-the-scenes footage in which Elliott Carter elaborates on his work. Legendary concert pianist Charles Rosen performs his Piano Sonata.

Naar aanleiding van het 70-jarig jubileum (2017) en het 75-jarig jubileum van Holland Festival (2022) hebben het festival en de VPRO onder de naam ‘Holland Festival Parels’ een duurzaam online platform ingericht. Het publiek vindt hier korte televisiefragmenten uit en over producties, die het Holland Festival de afgelopen zeven en een half decennia in Nederland presenteerde. Deze televisiefragmenten van diverse publieke omroepen zoals de NTR en VPRO zijn vaak eenmalig op televisie te zien geweest. Ze zijn nu als hommage en als online archief beschikbaar gemaakt.
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary (2017) and the 75th anniversary of Holland Festival (2022), the festival and the VPRO have set up a sustainable online platform under the name 'Holland Festival Gems’. Here, the audience will find short television excerpts from and about productions presented by the Holland Festival in the Netherlands over the past seven and a half decades. These television fragments from various public broadcasters such as NTR and VPRO have often been shown once on television. They have now been made available as a tribute and as an online archive.

Wonderful. Charles Rosen was at the peak of his musical powers. He was a prof at the University of Chicago at the time and was just as engaging in the classroom.
